Madlib is everywhere. Should i start caring again?

i loved the Quasimoto album but was really put off by all the subparish Yesterday's New Quintet stuff. i thought it was a good idea, but he lacked the instrumental skills to really pull it off.

but now he's putting out stuff with everyone and from what i've heard, maybe i'm beggining to get interested again.

so there was the Jaylib which of course was good. anything Jay Dee touches is gold for me.

then there's the Madvillan with him and MF Doom. heard a few clips and it sounds pretty righteous.

he has a 12" out with Vast Aire that doesnt' sound too shabby.

and i kept seeing the Dudley Perkins around but thought it was just another YNQ project but realized it was a smoky bar soul, jazz album sung by Declaime from lootpack

and then there's the Declaime album which i'm really interested in hearing. Madlib picked up an off-beat Jay Dee production style (really noticed it on the jaylib album where i had to look at the booklet to figure out who produced each of the tracks)

so anyone heard any of these and wanna tell me to care or not?

Jaylib I thought was quite weak, and I really like Madlib.
The new one that everyone loves -Shades of Blue - deserves all the praise it gets. I heard it once when it leaked, was bored, waited a month, bought it on a whim, and discovered I actually loved it...sorta like the first time I heard Fun House.
I liked the YNQ album myself.
The Madvillian leak was incredible.

I love Quasimoto, Lootpack, Jaylib, YNQ, Shades of Blue. He did half of the Wildchild record which was incredible. There isn't much he's done I've heard that I haven't liked. He's certainly huge inside hip-hop and out too - with the Blue Note stuff and such. I heard he's doing some work on Busta Rhymes next album - as is Jay Dee. Word em up.

Totally agree w/you about YNQ: he should've, you know, actually learned how to play before putting that out.
Is there a new Declaime album or you talking bout the one that came out a couple years ago? That one is decent, some pretty good beats on it and Madlib produced a lil more than half of it. (he's not part of Lootpack, btw)

the jaylib album was great. some of the year's best production.

dudley perkins had some great beats, but his novelty singing style tends to grate. i would love to hear it with someone who has a more traditional voice.

I'm bored by Shades of Blue, too. I mean, I only heard it once or twice, but I feel like the whole "let's sample Blue Note" thing is so tired. Plus, the Blue Note records are great already, and then Madlib goes and chooses samples that have already been plenty utilized? I don't know, maybe I'm not giving it a chance.

yeah, i'd give the blue note thing about a 3 on creativity, but an 8 on listenability. a lot of my friends who aren't either critics or jazz heads tend to like it a lot. plus, it is a testament to how much madlib's instrumental chops have improved; since have the tracks are interpolations and outright covers.

since half the tracks are interpolations and outright covers

I'm curious, what do you mean by this? That the tracks are more than simply a few well-plucked jazz samples? (Again, I've only heard it a couple times so bear w/ me.)
