What order would you put these songs?

I'm making a mixtape for a long ass car ride with people who aren't necessarily way into music. I have a bunch of random songs and I must be having a brainfart because I can't decide what order they should go. Or even what the first couple of songs should be and the last couple. What do you think? Here are the songs:

Killing Moon by Echo & The Bunnymen
There She Goes by The La's
Just Like Honey by The Jesus & Mary Chain
In Between Days by The Cure
How Soon Is Now? by The Smiths
She Bangs The Drum by The Stone Roses
Bizarre Love Triangle by New Order
Take The Skinheads Bowling by Camper Van Beethoven
Drowners by Suede
Today by The Smashing Pumpkins
Editions Of You by Roxy Music
Heroes by David Bowie
Bang a Gong by T.Rex
Crying by Roy Orbison
Just What I Needed by The Cars
New Rose by The Damned
Blank Generation by Richard Hell
Gangsters by The Specials
Rock Lobster by B-52's
Love Will Tear Us Apart by Joy Division
Ever Fallen In Love? by the Buzzcocks
Making Plans For Nigel by XTC
Roadrunner by Jonathan Richman
Don't you Want me by Human League
Girl U Want by Devo
Miserlou by Dick Dale
Hello It's Me by Todd Rundgren
You're Gonna Miss Me by The 13th Floor Elevators
Bonnie and Clyde by Serge Gainsbourgh

Rock Lobster to thread.

Haven't heard all of these, but I would venture that "Love With Tear Us Apart" probably shouldn't go first on the tape.

No, but "Just Like Honey" might be too obvious.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 01:38 (twenty-one years ago)

To put first, I mean. Not in general.

that order they're in looks just fine. if they're not way into music they're probably not gonna really care. most of those songs seem like good car songs.

'In Between Days' or 'Making Plans for Nigel' first.

'How Soon is Now?' last.

Try it alphabetically. That takes the guesswork out of it.

New Rose of course. Is she really going out with him?Great intro.Last song. How soon is now.

doesn't much matter the order...i predict that your passengers will be asking you to eject it by the third song or so.

I say put them in hurry-up-random order. Then listen to the tape several times, and the order will begin to make sense!
(You'll even react at the exact time you need to fast forward)

I had tapes 20 years ago that were made randomly, and to this day I expect to hear "Berkertex Bribe" (Crass) every time I hear "Twenty Flight Rock" (Eddie Cochran).

you have to open with roadrunner. it has a count-in for goodness sake.

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 04:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, but "You're Gonna Miss Me Babe" has a better opening riff.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 05:00 (twenty-one years ago)

"Just What I Needed" by the Cars. Most people are familiar with that song, and if that won't hook them, nothing will.
