Based in Manhattan, the Other Knee formed in 2000 as a Stereolab tribute band but quickly began peppering their high-energy sets with off-kilter originals. Guitarist Topher Bentley III and bassist Randolph P. Tuttle met at Columbia University, where they were both studying cultural anthopology. Drummer Bob "Skinwacker" Strachey joined the group after Tuttle's vintage drum machine went on the fritz. The Other Knee's electro-influenced self-released debut, "Ontology and the Get-Down Factor," earned the group a loyal following of hipsters and younger academics, and was met with critical acclaim both here and abroad. This summmer, the group received an unexpected boost when it was featured in a fashion spread for British Esquire. Now signed to DFA Records, Other Knee's sophomore effort, tentatively titled "Runway," is due in the April of 2004.

Too old to rock, too young to be told to stop.
