36-track "Best Of" by Howard Jones - Overkill of the year?

I mean, I am among those who loved this guy's music, and I still think he is slightly underrated. But 36 "Best Of"s are usually reserved for artists that have several decades of output behind them.

Let's take a look at what Jones has done. If he two first albums are included in their entirety (which would be fair enough - they aren't bad at all), then you have 22 tracks. Third album "One On One" also contained 2-3 singles that were all quite good. Now, there are 25 tracks. Adding great golden age-b-side "Always Asking Questions" means you have 26 tracks. And there are still 10 left. I do realise he has been making records after 1986 too, but they have usually been boring and bland and pointless, and there is no need including anything from those at all. OK, "Everlasting Love" and "The Prisoner" from 1989 are nice enough, but that's it, and there is no more worth listening to.

So, this must be the worst overkill ever...

Has anyone else noticed that Howard Jones seems to have spent the 90's slowly turning into John Lithgow?

Without his make-up, Robert Smith looks like John Lithgow too :-)

I always thought "No One Is To Blame" was a fantastic single and a bit of a departure from his usual "synthy" style. Phil Collins produced it and play drums on it too.

Ugh. The Phil Collins adult contemporary version of that song is dire. I much prefer the original.

Sure, "Hide & Seek" is an eternal classic, and "No One Is To Blame" is great too (in both versions). But 36 songs is still a bit too much, yes. :-)
