I sadly only got to experience his magic one time. one memory is standing watching him - he is in the midst of rolling a spliff as the record runs out. He pauses for a second and is obviously weighing up whether he should put the next record on or finish skinning up. He opts for the latter.
i always imagined he was somehow eternal.

i saw a post about how he only ever used one deck, which reminded me of the one time i saw dj derek do a set.he used to have 2 minidisc players linked up to the amp/pa system as opposed to record decks.he would play a track, then when it finished he would pick up the other minidisc player, and flick through the tracks to find another track to play, while doing his vocal thing down the mike 'rigggghhtt .. what shall i play next .. ok, this .. 'was the most wonderful dj set ever.really wish i had experienced a set by jah shaka, they sound to have been very special.
