which artists from the past ten years will be in the RNR Hall of Fame someday?

I'm kinda stumped. There's a few obvious choices like Radiohead, but who else? Is it going to be an endless succession of bands like Matchbox 20 and Creed?

Either way, the place should be torched. The whole idea of it is insulting.

Gear! (Gear!), Friday, 21 November 2003 01:56 (twenty-one years ago)

mmmmmm, Beck.

retort pouch (retort pouch), Friday, 21 November 2003 01:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Whoever debuted after 1993 and is still popular in 2018.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Friday, 21 November 2003 01:58 (twenty-one years ago)

(and yeah, torch it.)

retort pouch (retort pouch), Friday, 21 November 2003 01:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually Smashmouth is steadily building a career in the spotlight. A DARK HORSE CANDIDATE FOR WENNER AND CO

Gear! (Gear!), Friday, 21 November 2003 01:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I doubt that Matchbox 20 or Creed will be considered particularly important in 2018.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Friday, 21 November 2003 02:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Rufus Wainwright. He'll be dead by then of course.

retort pouch (retort pouch), Friday, 21 November 2003 02:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Speaking of dead people, Jeff Buckley will probably be among the 2019 inductees. Pretty certain about that.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Friday, 21 November 2003 02:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Eminem will be a lock.

Matt Helgeson (Matt Helgeson), Friday, 21 November 2003 02:05 (twenty-one years ago)

The Strokes, people!!

Sonny A. (Keiko), Friday, 21 November 2003 02:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Gear! (Gear!), Friday, 21 November 2003 02:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, they predate 1993 a bit I think, but Pearl Jam is the perfect RnR hall of fame band from the 90s - they are not too challenging, were super popular for a time, and represent what's considered an important period in rock (Seattle, Lollapalooza daze). Also, have lots of respect for their elders (Neil Young, Dylan)...

And Nirvana obviously will make it the first time they are nominated.

Matt Helgeson (Matt Helgeson), Friday, 21 November 2003 02:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, if the White Stripes can keep it up for the long haul, they would be good shots as well.

Matt Helgeson (Matt Helgeson), Friday, 21 November 2003 02:08 (twenty-one years ago)

We'll see about The Strokes and their long term impact. Eninem is likely to be among the 2024 inductees though.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Friday, 21 November 2003 02:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I wonder if any of the nu-metal bands will get in.....metal doesn't usually fare too well, and considering Black fuckin' Sabbath still isn't in I kinda doubt it.

Matt Helgeson (Matt Helgeson), Friday, 21 November 2003 02:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Doves.

Nom De Plume (Nom De Plume), Friday, 21 November 2003 02:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Pearl Jam = http://espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/3897.jpg

Gear! (Gear!), Friday, 21 November 2003 02:11 (twenty-one years ago)

One thing is important here: The guys who pick the inductees now will be dead in 25 years.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Friday, 21 November 2003 02:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Gear! your baseball knowledge is schooling me. Who are those guys, and do they mean that Pearl Jam and Jeff Buckley are in or out?

Matt Helgeson (Matt Helgeson), Friday, 21 November 2003 02:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I won't, unless I drink myself to death.

Nom De Plume (Nom De Plume), Friday, 21 November 2003 02:14 (twenty-one years ago)

There will be no rock n roll Hall of Fame "someday," because after the Beastie Boys get elected the entire shebang will start whirring and take off into outer space, and when it comes back it will bring back some actually good music.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 21 November 2003 02:18 (twenty-one years ago)

The induction of Beastie Boys is in 2011 then, I guess :-)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Friday, 21 November 2003 02:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Skee-Lo

Unum, Friday, 21 November 2003 04:30 (twenty-one years ago)

tupac in 2017.
biggy in 2019.

billstevejim, Friday, 21 November 2003 04:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Metallica, Nirvana, and Madonna will all get in on their first ballots.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Friday, 21 November 2003 04:36 (twenty-one years ago)

who cares it's the rnr hall of fame. the whole thing's ass.

cinniblount (James Blount), Friday, 21 November 2003 04:42 (twenty-one years ago)

It'll be interesting to see how hip-hop is introduced.

Mark (MarkR), Friday, 21 November 2003 05:15 (twenty-one years ago)

they'll fuck it up

cinniblount (James Blount), Friday, 21 November 2003 05:16 (twenty-one years ago)

who's gonna be in the bowling hall of fame in 2018?

cinniblount (James Blount), Friday, 21 November 2003 05:17 (twenty-one years ago)

does anyone here doubt for a second that the bowling hall of fame isn't ALOT cooler than the rnr hall of fame?

cinniblount (James Blount), Friday, 21 November 2003 05:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm pretty sure james fucking taylor isn't in the bowling hall of fame

cinniblount (James Blount), Friday, 21 November 2003 05:18 (twenty-one years ago)

sheryl crow.

typo acapulco (gcannon), Friday, 21 November 2003 05:31 (twenty-one years ago)

What the heck is this Rock'n'Roll hall of fame anyways?
Is it just a list?
Is there some thingy somewhere that you can go to and take photos of yourself with clay-casts of the entered musicians' penes?

Is there ANY good bands in there so far? Or is it basically radiorock canon? If so: obviously Nirvana.

Øystein H-O (Øystein H-O), Friday, 21 November 2003 05:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Pearl Jam != Palmeiro -- though both have been solid for years, Pearl Jam did have its moment in the sun, when it seemed like they were the center of a new musical revolution (cover of TIME article on alt-rock, fall 1993). Was Palmerio at any point seen as the premier player in the league, or among his age class? (Then again, maybe Palmeiro has the advantage, because 500 HRs is pretty fucking impressive, and what really do Pearl Jam have to show for the last eight years except a good reputation?)

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 21 November 2003 06:51 (twenty-one years ago)

It'll be interesting to see how hip-hop is introduced.

Run-DMC would seem logical....generally respected, broke it through to the mainstream, Aerosmith collabo will with the older voters, and a great, great band to boot.

Matt Helgeson (Matt Helgeson), Friday, 21 November 2003 06:55 (twenty-one years ago)

In a perfect world, Anal Cunt. In our world, Dave Mathews Band.

James Slone (Freon Trotsky), Friday, 21 November 2003 06:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Run DMC seems right, although we'd have to wait until 2009 to see it happen. The only hip-hop artists that have any chance before that are probably the Sugarhill Gang (2004) or Grandmaster Flash (2007) -- but both are probably more notable for their innovations to the genre through iconic singles than for solid careers. (My impression is that the Hall of Fame likes "careers.")

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 21 November 2003 07:05 (twenty-one years ago)

528 homers to be precise, friend.

And to be sure there is no Hall of Fame less cool than the Rock and Roll HOF. That place is like the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, with the cool bits removed, and a Tower Records put in its place.

Pearl Jam is in, Buckley isn't...just my guess.

hell with it

Gear! (Gear!), Friday, 21 November 2003 07:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Who is Madonna?? Satchel Page?

Matt Helgeson (Matt Helgeson), Friday, 21 November 2003 07:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Dave Matthews is total hardcore RNRHÖF material. And Jack Black.

Ian Christe (Ian Christe), Friday, 21 November 2003 09:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I laughed like a drain, a couple years ago they had a nationwide (UK) best ever song vote, and BoRap won yawn.. Robbie Williams had three entries in topten.

So a panel of experts (Bob Geldof, Paul Gambacc, Neil Hannon....) sat round bemoaning Rob's votes (public only remember past two years, blah), and then stated that in ten years, Macy Gray would be in there. i.e. same as what they accused the genPub of.

Suffice to say, no macy in there (then or now...)

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 21 November 2003 14:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay, that's a little further back than past ten years ha ha. I'm so predictable.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 21 November 2003 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

what are the rules? you have to have done your first recording 20 years ago or what?

mrjackhandey (mrjackhandey), Friday, 21 November 2003 19:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Pearl Jam != Palmeiro -- though both have been solid for years, Pearl Jam did have its moment in the sun...

i thought gear was just saying that in 25 years pearl jam will be the leading spokesmen for viagra.

fact checking cuz, Friday, 21 November 2003 19:49 (twenty-one years ago)

but jeff buckley = tony conigliaro is totally OTM. a guy who may well have grown into one of the all time greats, but his career was cut tragically short, and 25 years later (or 35 years later in tony's case) hardly anyone remembers him.

fact checking cuz, Friday, 21 November 2003 19:51 (twenty-one years ago)

i saw a free Pere Ubu show at the rnr hall of fame. Also saw a free Cobra verde show there as well. It's good for something at least.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Friday, 21 November 2003 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Dammit, what was the Madonna pic going to be?

I dunno why.

Gear! (Gear!), Friday, 21 November 2003 21:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't either. That makes absolutely no sense.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 21 November 2003 21:02 (twenty-one years ago)

That's what I pride myself on.

Gear! (Gear!), Friday, 21 November 2003 23:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Weezer in 2019

John Fredland (jfredland), Friday, 21 November 2003 23:34 (twenty-one years ago)

i'd nominate 90% of the bands here for abduction.

vahid (vahid), Friday, 21 November 2003 23:58 (twenty-one years ago)

The Pixies, Mclusky, well I can dream.
