Can't believe this hasn't been done. For any ILMers looking to start a band, the answer might be right under your nose! Post your "Classified" ad here, be sure to specify what city / state you are in. I don't play but I'd like to know someday that I had something to with hooking up the next Nirvana - who knows??

Okay, I'll bite. I'm in Chicago (although possibly relocating to New York in the next 12 months) and I'd like to start an over-the-top, attitudinal rock 'n' roll band influenced by funk, soul, krautrock, baroque pop, R&B, free jazz, space rock, blooze, ye-ye, girl groups, Indian music, and psychedelia. Insanity and excess should be big influences. Hand-held percussion (tambourines! cowbells!) a must. We could be political or not. I own several guitars and a tambourine, and could also play bass, dulcimer, or saxophone. Attitude more important than talent. This is ridiculous, I'll never find anyone else who'd want this.

Oh--and I like handclaps.

Sarah Pedal (call mr. lee), Friday, 21 November 2003 02:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Brand new drummer seeks guitarist / bassist in NYC area for heavy rock combo. You like obscuro psych (Tarkus and Hairy Chapter especially), Groundhogs, old death / thrash metal, Royal Trux / NMH, Mastodon, Melvins (Joe Preston era), and Motorhead. If you sing, you sound like Al Johnson, Neil Fallon or Jack Bruce. Combo of the three wins you a blowjob (but not by me). No garage / mod losers, art/noise sissies, or junkies. You are tight, technical, and bad as hell. Inquire within.

Sonny A. (Keiko), Friday, 21 November 2003 04:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Damn, it's a shame dave q doesn't live in NYC, or Roger Adultery in London.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 21 November 2003 04:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Indiana? And you're calling New York a shithole? I've seen Indiana.

Sarah Pedal (call mr. lee), Friday, 21 November 2003 04:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Beautiful countrysides, yo. Amber waves of grain. All that matters is what you think of the name The Littlest Chipmunks.

Sonny A. (Keiko), Friday, 21 November 2003 04:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Lexington, KY Area--

I already play in a band, but would love to find some people wanting to do recordings and jam garage free punk improv to tape (actually harddisc).

Back in the boombox/4track era, I played in a bunch of bands that would jam quite a bit to live to tape, now I have a sampler/pc to cut up and edit this kind of thing, but I can't find people to do the playing. I'd like to work up tunes and cut up jams to make finished recordings.

Synths, drums, guitars, bassists...whatver you play, I'm game. I mostly play bass, but have worked a bit with MIDI etc. and have a nice home recording setup.

I'd also be game to put together an amped up bassist/drum kit duo with someone.

earlnash, Friday, 21 November 2003 04:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Living in New York now for school. Providene is home. I play bass and I like heavy stuff & psych--Earth, Sleep, Fushitsusha Melvins, Karp, Blue Cheer, Sunroof, Comets on Fire, Acid Mothers etc.

I don't have any skillz or good equipment.

Ian Johnson (orion), Friday, 21 November 2003 04:50 (twenty-two years ago)

ian that sounds pretty rad actually. i'm a shitty drummer because after 12 years of guitar / bass i just decided i need a change. i don't even have a drumset yet (but will next week). drop a line if you wanna make a racket.

roger adultery, Friday, 21 November 2003 04:59 (twenty-two years ago)

msp, Friday, 21 November 2003 05:01 (twenty-two years ago)

All that matters is what you think of the name The Littlest Chipmunks.

Umm...if I ever stop hating the Elephant 6, I'll call you? I like The Pedals as a band name.

Sarah Pedal (call mr. lee), Friday, 21 November 2003 05:08 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't think it's taken either.

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 21 November 2003 05:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I call it!

Sarah Pedal (call mr. lee), Friday, 21 November 2003 05:15 (twenty-two years ago)

i didn't want to be in a band with someone who doesn't list disco as an "influence" anyway!!

Sonny A. (Keiko), Friday, 21 November 2003 05:16 (twenty-two years ago)

The Littlest Chipmunks, Bloomington, Indiana based attitudinal rock band with all the same influences as the pedals plus disco and german no-wave

let me know if you're interested!!

Sonny A. (Keiko), Friday, 21 November 2003 05:17 (twenty-two years ago)

We can go on tour together...you can bring in all the gay fans. j/k

Sarah Pedal (call mr. lee), Friday, 21 November 2003 05:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I forgot to mention it's a prerequisite that your shoes match your belt if you want to join this band... I'm not even kidding

Sonny A. (Keiko), Friday, 21 November 2003 05:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Sounds like Ohio.

Sarah Pedal (call mr. lee), Friday, 21 November 2003 05:24 (twenty-two years ago)

keyboards and/or strings (violin/cello) for slow ambienty guitar based minor key instrumental fun. drummer too if the one I hope to audition doesn't work out; drummer must be able to play with brushes and not slam on the drums. ability to listen to others and understand the concept of silence and space in music primary. San Francisco Bay Area. Already recording. influences are low, bark psychosis, talk talk, wurlitzer jukebox bands, the like.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Friday, 21 November 2003 07:52 (twenty-two years ago)

roger I also live in NYC and play guitar and like psych, etc.

hstencil, Friday, 21 November 2003 07:53 (twenty-two years ago)

haha my influences make us sound like the most ILM band ever but in fact NO ONE WILL RESPOND EVER.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Friday, 21 November 2003 07:56 (twenty-two years ago)

i thought we discussed "the most ILM band ever"... ie... the only band we could all probably agree to like... and it was "puttin on the ritz" era taco.

you got tuxes? i can pretend to tap dance.
m.

msp, Friday, 21 November 2003 12:53 (twenty-two years ago)

no, hstencil! you're spoken for... have you forgotten about the mind blowers already?

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 21 November 2003 13:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude, Sarah, I told you I'd be in your band. All that stuff sounds awesome, except "The Pedals." Don't like that name.
Anyways, I'll be in Chicago, I do guitar/bass/vocals, I want to be in a band that sounds like the Fall but more obnoxious and noisy. Lots of repetition. We will be called Scare Quotes, and our first album will be called 'Square Coats.'

NA (Nick A.), Friday, 21 November 2003 13:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Um, yeah folk musician, likes other folk musicians. But also wants a group collective weirdo thing like Broken Social Scene, GYBE!, Do Make Say Think, Yume Bitsu. But will do folk too. Massachusetts

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Friday, 21 November 2003 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Didn't really want to put singer/songwriter.

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Friday, 21 November 2003 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, I guess I should use this opportuniy to say:

Any bands/musicians/composers based in the SF Bay Area or environs who would be interested in some kind of informal but mutually beneficial film/music collaboration (video? soundtrack?) can blam me an email at laststandrecords*removeme*@*yeah, this too*hotmail.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 21 November 2003 21:39 (twenty-two years ago)

EARLNASH! I might not be able to help you, but I might know some folks who can!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 21 November 2003 21:43 (twenty-two years ago)

A'ight what the hell, what I'm currently looking for: a drummer and guitarist for ridiculously wack rock trio (I will play bass and vocalize and push sampler buttons etc). Must be willing to play insane funky songs, sappy love songs, intense screamy songs, laid back indie-funk, rowdy songs about monkeys, odd-time sig hip-hop jams, etc. Also: must be willing to do as I say. I've had enough of "democracy" in bands, I want to be the band Hitler this time. This is my actual email address.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 21 November 2003 21:48 (twenty-two years ago)

bedroom synth noir weirdo ISO three percussionists and a bassplayer for experimental punk band. Influences: Throbbing Gristle, Liquid Liquid, Suicide, Chrome, Arthur Russell, Laughner era Pere Ubu, The Electric Eels, Joy Division, Stockhausen, Derrick May, The Rubber Jews, and The Potions.
