anyone else get this? anyone care?

I was kind of looking forward to it because of all the unreleased stuff and because there were some b-sides that I really liked back in the day. all in all there's not a lot I'm caring for, aside from the stuff I already liked, like "Black, Red, Yellow" and "Leavin' Here", although maybe with time I'll find some hidden gems. I like the mellower stuff on disc 2, and I say that as someone with a low tolerance for the ballads on their last few albums.

also, I'm kinda peeved that it doesn't include their new single off the Big Fish soundtrack, which I heard some of the other night and sounded pretty good.

also, I noticed reading the liners that Vitalogy is the only album from which there isn't a single b-side or outtake, which makes total sense in retrospect.

It's good, better than some of their albums. And it has Yellow Ledbetter on it.

JP Almeida (JP Almeida), Friday, 21 November 2003 14:48 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, it's nice to have "Yellow Ledbetter" on a CD finally.

"Undone" is growing on me big time. maybe better than most of what ended up on Riot Act.

Figure I will get this used or something. I'm in no hurry.

"Out Of My Mind" was a b-side for "Not For You."

"Out Of My Mind" isn't on the compilation, though. Neither is "Leatherman," which is weird since they play that song live very frequently. No sign of "Breath" or "State of Love And Trust" or "I Got Shit" or "Long Road" either.

I don't really listen to PJ much anymore, and I definitely won't be buying this (or even downloading it, really), but this record does include the song that I've considered the best Pearl Jam song ever going waaaaay back to 1993 or so, "Hard To Imagine." So that's cool.

Pearl Jam Suckle.

Oh man, you just reminded me of I Got Shit. If there were a Pearl Jam OPO, that might have to be it for me.

"Hard To Imagine" stinks of those caravan-like acid beatnik jams that dominated much of Ten, aka the band's Achilles heel.

There are plenty of great uptempo tracks on here that I hadn't previously heard, though, and it's nice to have some of the other stuff in a convenient package.

anyone have any idea what the hidden track on disc 2 is?

Al (sitcom), Sunday, 23 November 2003 18:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know. I usually hate Vedder's poetry songs, but the story in this one is pretty good.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Sunday, 23 November 2003 20:53 (twenty-two years ago)

It's his tribute song to Layne Staley of Alice in Chains.

ah, I was confused why I saw it referred to as "4/20/02", now it makes sense.

I was at a GbV show that day.

It's his tribute song to Layne Staley of Alice in Chains.

I don't think so. I downloaded it, and the lyrics were all about breaking up with some girl. It was a spoken word number over an instrumental.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Monday, 24 November 2003 14:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I dunno, I remember there being a few direct references to death in there.

Al (sitcom), Monday, 24 November 2003 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

the Staley tribute was the hiddren track on the U.S. release. The other, spoken word track, held the same slot on Japanese releases.

So, two in all.
