is it as great as his live show? i think i'd like to have a live album of Jonathan.

I saw him, shit, it'll be 10 yrs ago this next spring! I'm old! Anyway, Precise Modern Lovers Order is culled from a couple of concerts done in I think 71 and 72, so like pre-John Cale and everything. It's radically different from what Jojo does now or has in the last 20 years for that matter.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 21 November 2003 20:12 (twenty-one years ago)

What about the live album from '77? Different Modern Lovers. Different songs and schtick. This is the only Richman live stuff I have. More Mr.Rogers-stylee. I don't mind. I liked Mr. Rogers.

But I'm curious about this "Precise" live one. (never heard of it until now!)

peepee (peepee), Friday, 21 November 2003 20:23 (twenty-one years ago)

darker, more adolescent (check out jojo on the cover, he looks 12) very velvets-y (they even cover "Foggy Notion")

lauren do you own having a party with jonathan richman and the modern lovers?

amateur!st (amateurist), Monday, 2 August 2004 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

i do, somewhere. it was, um, borrowed from the college radio station.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 2 August 2004 16:16 (twenty-one years ago)

That's the fake live one. It sounds like it's live, but it's just a bunch of people in the studio. It's like the Make-Up, only 6 years earlier.
"She Doesn't Laugh At My Jokes" was my theme song.

Huck, Monday, 2 August 2004 18:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I like that old Beserkley live LP. I think it was just called The Modern Lovers Live. It has a really good version of "Ice Cream Man" on it.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 02:01 (twenty-one years ago)

i just walked by the make out room in SF and jonathan's playing this very minute... in fact, it's a 4-night stand for anyone who's interested

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 05:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Is that the 8-minute version of "Ice Cream Man" where he refuses to end it? I love that.

huck, Tuesday, 3 August 2004 05:56 (twenty-one years ago)

"Thankyou ladies and gentlemen our next song is gonnabe...ICE CREAM MAN.. DOO WAY!"

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 07:54 (twenty-one years ago)

"Is that the 8-minute version of "Ice Cream Man" where he refuses to end it?"

Yes. And where else are you going to hear "I'm a Little Airplane?"

Dada, please don't waste your time replying to messages like the one I just deleted. It's machine generated spam, and I generally shitcan any instance of it I find on ILM.
