So, im f-d up. Made my wife watch WOZ and listen to DSOTM. I've done it a bunch of times and I love it. Hook me up. Your thoughts.

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Saturday, 22 November 2003 02:57 (twenty-one years ago)

classic rock sucks

asfdzxc (asfdzxc), Saturday, 22 November 2003 02:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Remind us all of the sync-up trick, there's something w/the MGM lion

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 22 November 2003 02:58 (twenty-one years ago)

not really. right after the lion roars for the third time start the cd.

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Saturday, 22 November 2003 02:59 (twenty-one years ago)

How long does it last? I've heard it peters out after half an hour or so.

calstars (calstars), Saturday, 22 November 2003 03:02 (twenty-one years ago)

last right until the tin man falls over. whatever dsotm clocks in at. has the floyd come out and admitted to the connection?

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Saturday, 22 November 2003 03:03 (twenty-one years ago)

That's when you put on "Reign in Blood"

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 22 November 2003 03:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Fuck no, "The Robots" by Kraftwerk.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 22 November 2003 03:04 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah! slayer.

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Saturday, 22 November 2003 03:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Never tried it. Always been curious to. The Floyd categorically deny the rumour. Also, in 1972-1973 (circa the recording of Dark Side...), I don't believe the technology was necessarily up to speed for them to have pulled it off. Moreover, there's footage of them recording the album in Live at Pompeii with nary a sign of munchkins nor flying monkeys. I think it's merely a trippy coincidence.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 22 November 2003 03:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I've heard it peters out after half an hour or so.

For me, the coolest moment is the last song on the album (I forget what it's called) in synch with the Tin Man coming to life.

Unum, Saturday, 22 November 2003 03:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I've tried this, but actually had more success linking up the end of
" Close Encounters of the Third Kind " with Parliment's " Mothership Connection " .

darth nader, Saturday, 22 November 2003 04:08 (twenty-one years ago)

tornado/"great gig in the sky" mashup = ace

if you've ever edited image to sound you will know that ANY piece of music will have numerous sync up points with ANY piece of film, this is just the way human branes work i think

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 22 November 2003 04:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't get "The Wall" to sync up to that film. Am I supposed to start the CD after Alan Parker steals the third idea from Ridley Scott?

Nom De Plume (Nom De Plume), Saturday, 22 November 2003 04:16 (twenty-one years ago)

"Close Encounters of the Third Kind " with Parliment's " Mothership Connection " .

Hahaha!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 22 November 2003 04:43 (twenty-one years ago)

You do know that Mothership Connection pre-dates "Close Encounters," though, right?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 22 November 2003 04:43 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, but Parliment-Funkadelic had accsess to time travel!
Maybe the film was auto-biographical ?
:)

darth nader, Saturday, 22 November 2003 04:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe the film was auto-biographical ?

Maybe...but there's nary a black man in the film, so it's unlikely.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 22 November 2003 05:01 (twenty-one years ago)

LOL!

darth nader, Saturday, 22 November 2003 05:17 (twenty-one years ago)

No no no, it's vice-versa -- Spielberg was inspired by P-Funk. Pretty much the entirety of the last twelve minutes of Jaws was edited to fit with "Maggot Brain".

nate detritus (natedetritus), Saturday, 22 November 2003 05:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Another good syncer (pron. "sinker") is PF's DSOTM and the Disney Classic "Alice in Wonderland".

Let it be known, the last time I ever did any sync-a-movie-with-an-album thing was in 1998, when there was a considerabley higher THC content in my blood.

Helltime Producto (Pavlik), Saturday, 22 November 2003 06:34 (twenty-one years ago)

At a film festival last year I saw a screening of Wizard Of Oz with DSOTM as the soundtrack - everyone in the theatre cracked up at the end of the film when that line from the Breathe reprise came on - "home, home again". It was very much a "whoa, that is too much, duuuude" moment, even for those of us who weren't on anything.

Schwingung (Damian), Saturday, 22 November 2003 09:34 (twenty-one years ago)

This is all so old news now. PF freaks are now busy syncing up "Echoes" to the stargate sequence in 2001.

Hint, hit play right when the "Moons Of Jupiter and Beyond The Infinite" screen comes on.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Saturday, 22 November 2003 09:41 (twenty-one years ago)

An old friend showed me the "Echoes" with the stargate sequence in 2001 a few years ago and it was awesome. Granted I was a little under the influence, but regardless, it was really cool.

Stepher, Saturday, 22 November 2003 15:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you set the cd on repeat?

Speedy Gonzalas (Speedy Gonzalas), Saturday, 22 November 2003 21:29 (twenty-one years ago)

mega-xpost, but tracer otm. It works better when neither the audio or video is very static. The other day I watched this guy's video that he was working on, and I remarked how well the music fit the vid at some points. He then told me that he'd basically just slapped them together.

All that said, I would like to try the WOZ/DSOTM thing and see what all the fuss is about.

Elliot (Elliot), Sunday, 23 November 2003 08:51 (twenty-one years ago)

The coolest thing about DSOTM is that it's a gatefold that you can clean your weed on.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Sunday, 23 November 2003 08:57 (twenty-one years ago)

How does the gatefold clean your weed?

Johnney B (Johnney B), Sunday, 23 November 2003 12:59 (twenty-one years ago)

i saw a "dark side of the oz' dvd yesterday at a toy/record show. $30.00 WHY??

kephm, Sunday, 23 November 2003 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Cuz some folks can't hit "play" on more than one machine at a time perhaps.

Any why haven't they come out with h@sh-scented smellovision on these dvds is beyond me.

p.j. (Henry), Sunday, 23 November 2003 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

"and why they haven't"

apparently the smellovision is not needed here.

p.j. (Henry), Sunday, 23 November 2003 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Dog Latin he say - fuck that shit, try synching Hellfish's "Meat Machine Broadcast System" with Akira for a real treat!

dog latin, Monday, 24 November 2003 01:56 (twenty-one years ago)

How does the gatefold clean your weed?

Because it's a surface that folds and slants in, to catch stray bits of falling weed/stem/seed.

Ian Johnson (orion), Monday, 24 November 2003 05:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I've done OK Computer with the anime 'Ghosts of the Shell'. That was fun. I was high of course.

I agree that any video and music selection will have it's stunning moments of synch.

Debito (Debito), Monday, 24 November 2003 05:19 (twenty-one years ago)

STRAIGHT DOPE to the rescue!

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 24 November 2003 05:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I like to sink White Light/White Heat up to TV static. That way it's different every time. Works with other records too. I've done the Floyd/Oz thing. It's cool!

Sonny A. (Keiko), Monday, 24 November 2003 05:40 (twenty-one years ago)

This whole synchronicity thing influenced me 6 or 7 years ago to try synching up various unrelated film and music, just to see what happened. I had a whole bunch of them on a tape, and I let a friend borrow it to watch the Floyd/Oz one, and he never returned it. There was some good stuff on there.

My favorite was probably Ween's "Big Jilm" with the choir from Sister Act.

billstevejim, Monday, 24 November 2003 07:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yeah, don't believe what you read. Siamese Dream and Fantasia does NOT work.

billstevejim, Monday, 24 November 2003 07:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I gotta try Can Ox's The Cold Vein with Blade Runner one of these days. Caveat: it might wind up doing something goofy like play "Painkillers" during the Zhora chase.

nate detritus (natedetritus), Monday, 24 November 2003 08:06 (twenty-one years ago)

For anybody who needs some suggestions for similar syncs, try here:

http://www.synchronicityarkive.com/search2.php?show=complete

Can't verify any of them myself, but out of 315 there must be a couple of decent ones...

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Monday, 24 November 2003 11:07 (twenty-one years ago)

One night I was listening to the Sugarcubes second album while wathing the film "Betrayal" on TV, and just as "Regina" was fading out, the bloke says to the woman "You sure you won't have the lobster?"

(You'll have to know the track to make sense of that one)

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 24 November 2003 11:12 (twenty-one years ago)

"aliens" with "pet sounds",
no, seriously... try it, it works!

bob snoom, Monday, 24 November 2003 12:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I listened to Gang of Four's Entertainment! while watching a documentary about the a-bomb. There wasn't much synching going on, suprisingly enough. But then, I was also folding laundry.

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 24 November 2003 14:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I like to listen to Beastie Boys' fuzz-bass songs ("Sabotage", "Gratitude", etc.) while watching Animal Planet shows where lions are tearing antilopes new assholes and such.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 24 November 2003 19:02 (twenty-one years ago)

two years pass...
