which one is more fun to read?

I've been issued traffic tickets with more journalistic integrity than US Magazine.

it's a toss-up between US and In Touch. i never miss an issue of either one. That Iraq story in this week's new yorker was pretty good. not really fun though.it took up the entire magazine! that's like Hersey territory. but it's important and i hope people read it.

US magazine is great and i'd like to know more about it's lack of integrity. In Touch I haven't delved into yet.

I liked the NYorker last week about Gen. Clark. I haven't read the new one yet.

i've already mentioned this elsewhere, but i'm a big fan of Terrorizer, Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles, and Ugly Things. And Mojo for the pictures. And any magazine that comes with a cd whether it's The Pit or the Oxford American or Sound Collector or whatever. i've only bought one copy of The Wire but i liked staring at the reviews in the same way that i stare at pictures of watches in the pages of GQ. they are both shiny and foreign and i can't afford either pricey avant discs or swiss timepieces but i like to gawk. and i kept thinking that the picture of david toop's writing desk should have been on the cover instead of within. i will have to buy more issues. but yeah, US all the way cuz i can't help myself. whoever came up with the STARS! THEY ARE JUST LIKE US section deserves a raise.

that's the best thing this side of the (officially ILX-disavowed Vice mag's) Do's & Don'ts

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Saturday, 22 November 2003 04:55 (twenty-two years ago)

In Touch has some of the same pictures as US but sometimes they are from a slightly different angle or shot seconds before or after the picture that appears in US so you can get some variations on a theme by buying both mags at once.philosophically they are quite similar.

scott seward, Saturday, 22 November 2003 04:56 (twenty-two years ago)

oh yeah & UGLY THINGS is great

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Saturday, 22 November 2003 05:03 (twenty-two years ago)

and so are all magaixines with free cd's

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Saturday, 22 November 2003 05:06 (twenty-two years ago)

wasn't that wesley clark article creepy? jeez, they made him sound dangerous. you'd never even know that stuff by reading the papers or other magazines.can't you just picture him waiting around for someone to tell him that he is needed in Iraq and the call never comes and he just says fuck it! i'll run for president and make cryptic statements about the defense department. i hope people don't fall for him. he's a loose cannon. sorry. i also love any magazine that has the listening party thing where musicians listen to new singles. even rolling stone does it now. alice cooper was pretty funny at it a couple weeks back.

scott seward, Saturday, 22 November 2003 05:15 (twenty-two years ago)

you know the only cd's i've never listened to that came with magazines were the dj spooky one that came with an issue of nest and the they might be giants one that came with an issue of mcsweeny's. i still have them too! and i still don't want to listen to them. i only buy those two magazines so that i can sell them on ebay in 50 years when i am old and poor. i never read them. they are pretty though.

scott seward, Saturday, 22 November 2003 05:20 (twenty-two years ago)

what's kerrang! like? i've never actually finished reading an issue of it

geeta (geeta), Saturday, 22 November 2003 05:23 (twenty-two years ago)

i sold a stack of italian design magazines from the 50's and 60's on ebay that i bought for a dollar a piece on the street. they went for 20 to 30 dollars an issue. do you know who bought them? Italians! In Italy! i know, what a weird world. They were pretty too, but what are you gonna do with them? they were just taking up space.

scott seward, Saturday, 22 November 2003 05:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I haven't read kerrang in a while. i swear they had the white stripes on the cover last year but i might have been seeing things. that's just not right.

scott seward, Saturday, 22 November 2003 05:25 (twenty-two years ago)

i only read really read Kerrang when they had Iron maiden on the cover every issue.they were trailblazers for all things metal, i will give them that.

scott seward, Saturday, 22 November 2003 05:26 (twenty-two years ago)

actually, geeta, if you see it anywhere, pick up a copy of SOD(Sounds of Death). that's a great magazine. it's a little pricey cuz it costs 6 dollars and 66 cents but it's worth every penny. it comes with a cd and it has great interviews with death metal/grindcore people. plus, if they really like a records they give it 666FuckingSkulls! This is a rare rating that they only give to the very very deserving.

scott seward, Saturday, 22 November 2003 05:41 (twenty-two years ago)

well, i'm going to bed, but i think it's official, Fritz. US Magazine is the best.

scott seward, Saturday, 22 November 2003 05:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I read US for the first time in years at a doctor's office a couple weeks ago, and I was floored. It covers celebrity culture so thoroughly and with such a perfect tone that every other magazine (eg, Rolling Stone) should just abandon that part of their mission at stick to whatever else it is that they do best. It doesn't make me feel grimy like watching E! and it isn't drowning in mom-pathos like People.
