Thesis on sound and Design

Is this crazy? I am writing a thesis on sound and design. I love Marshall McCluhan and have read a lot of his ideas and Tony Schwartz on sound. After looking at the history of music and language development it is obvious that sound has been and is becoming the way to express and communicate ideas. I am looking into how experimental sound may not communicate a solid thought but connotes an experience. This experience can be applied in a commercial sense to make a connection between that feeling and their product.

yes, that makes sense because sounds come to have certain connotations to them. How do you mean "experimental sound"? Sounds without word? Think: Bitches Brew. i can not study to that album.

but that kind of meaning is easily appropriated, so there's no way to argue similarity of intent in sound w/o image. However, the constant association of a sound with an image would tend to create a different, relatively more stable meaning.

This experience can be applied in a commercial sense to make a connection between that feeling and their product.

that's true: think about that car commercial with the Telepopmusik song.

but, now that i think about it, "experimental sound" of that kind is done all the time with Musak.
