Radio 4 'Gotham', Gary Numan 'Pleasure...', Chris Bell 'I am the Cosmos': Thoughts on my latest purchases

'Gotham' fucking rocks! I realize it's not terribly original, but it fucking rocks. Have I mentioned that it fucking rocks?

'Pleasure Principle' is brilliant. Is it just me, or does the singer for Modest Mouse sound a lot like Gary Numan? Well anyways, that's not important. It sounds like Kraftwerk, if Kraftwerk was a pop band. I am awash in waves of synth.

'I am the Cosmos'. Disappointed. I've only listened to it a couple of times, but I am underwhelmed. I love Bigstar - they're one of my absolute favorite bands. This album just sounds like a poorer version of Bigstar. Am I misjudging?

I have no idea what the point is of this thread. Just sharing, I suppose.

Strange. Out of the three of those (all of which I happen to like very much), I like the Chris Bell album the most.

You just need to spend time with it.

In defense of Chris Bell, most of those recordings are demos used to try and get a record contract. There are a couple of really good songs on that set, especially the title track, but it is really more of an archival kind of thing than a completed album.

The production on "Gotham" is pretty interesting, but the tunes haven't really grown on me like a few songs on Radio 4's first album.

"Pleasure Principle" is great. Numan's first three albums are all good listens.

Pleasure Principle has never sounded better. It seems to match the zeitgeist.

'I am the Cosmos'. Disappointed.

Well, maybe the thing is: don't see it as a *record* cause it was compiled by his brother (?)./ rockist mode.
