The Silver Convention - Fly Robin Fly

Why would you tell a bird to fly? They know how to do it. They're doing it anyway.

What's more, why tell a bird to fly 'up into the sky?' Where else are they going to fly? Down into the sea?

It's puzzling.

looks like those clowns in congress did it again. what a bunch of clowns.

bad jode (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 02:04 (twenty-two years ago)

"Soulful yet anonymous" !

Sean (Sean), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 02:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I suppose the robin could be on a branch, and therefore not in flight. But who are the Silver Convention to tell her what to do? Presumably, if she needs to fly, for example to get some worms, or to evade a predator (eg, an owl, or just to ride the agreeable afternoon upcurrents with some feathered friends, then she will. Otherwise, the humane thing to do would be simply to let her be. She probably just needs to rest her little legs for the while.

"When the seagulls follow the trawler........"

Pete S, Tuesday, 25 November 2003 02:19 (twenty-two years ago)

We're talking about a robin, Pete, not a seagull. Now, 'down in to the sea' would make sense if it were a seagull, an albatross or a cormorant.

Songwriters are constantly exhorting birds to sing too, have you noticed? This lyrically authoritarian attitude to bird behaviour has got to stop.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 02:24 (twenty-two years ago)

where does juliana hatfield fit into all of this?

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 02:28 (twenty-two years ago)

sean, is there a problem?

bad jode (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 02:33 (twenty-two years ago)

but what was she telling the birds to do?

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 02:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Clearly, to peck at her promotional CD. Which, again, seems cruel, as there is not much nourishment there. She should give them breadcrumbs or worms, not vinyl or plastic. Quite surprising, really, for an avowed environmentalist.

Colin, I've noticed you know an awful lot about animals.

Nihilist, if it's a crime to love our feathered and furry friends, then there is none more guilty than I.

Even if I did recently sacrifice a mouse to a kurrawong. But hey, nature is red in tooth and claw.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 03:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I was reusing your phrase in tribute to you, Jody. Why would there be a problem??

Sean (Sean), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 03:52 (twenty-two years ago)

but what was she telling the birds to do?

Not die, apparently

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 12:54 (twenty-two years ago)

The bird is already in mid-flight. That is the point.

musicmope (musicmope), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)
