I heard "Egyptian Shumba" recently, and it's wondrous pop from another planet... how do people rate the rest of the stuff they did?

Lou Christie is a truly overlooked pop genius. After Egyptian Shumba (a phenomenal record which you all must hear *now*), you may be a little disappointed with the rest of the Tammys material, but Lou's records from 66-71 are a widely diverse bunch of recordings, where he seems to be flying about in all sorts of directions, from Bubblegum to intense soul-searching concept albums. It's all great, however, and all music fans should at least search "Paint America Love", a Nixon-era State-Of-The-Nation diatribe.

Lou was one of the earliest pop vocalists to write his own material.. His earlier stuff Guitars & Bongos was kind of pop surf, and stuff like "Lightning Strikes" and "Trapeze" are absolute classics! One of the greatest falsettos in pop.

He still tours occasionally, usually with Lesley Gore...

I have the compilation CD of Lou and the Tammys. I with the dude upthread citing other numbers other than Egyptian Shumba. It's their best song, obviously, but how about "Guitars and Bongos" - an obvious template for the B-52s. "Two Faces Have I", "Back Track" and a few others are diamonds. Three sopranos and a falsetto! That's pretty unusual.

eight years pass...

I'm trying to remember some movie where a character starts analyzing the vocal in "Lightnin' Strikes." It comes out of nowhere, like the Madonna analysis in Reservoir Dogs. Maybe it's a TV show, I don't know...pretty sure it was a movie.
