I like all the other Game Theory stuff and I'm a big fan of the Loud Family records. Scott Miller is one of the few lyricists I really like (I normally don't pay much attention to lyrics).
For me, the musician who's carries the torch that Scott Miller once carried (since, for now, Scott's given up making new music) is Stew. His stuff doesn't necessarily sound like Scott Miller's (though Stew is a known Scott Miller fan), but like Scott he's an adult, literate, dynamic pop songwriter. His records are in that 'direction' that Game Theory sent me toward.

I think my fave Game Theory album is Big Shot Chronicles.

Maybe not interesting to anyone but me, but...I once wandered into a fraternity house (don't ask) and found Game Theory playing there...this coincided with the exact moment at which my acquisition of "Lolita Nation" had flowered into obsession: they were my favorite band in the world just then, and what on God's green they were doing in some dingy, can-strewn basement in Massachusetts boggled me even more than what *I* was doing there. They played a boss cover of "Remake/Remodel" too... -- M Specktor (M Specktor), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 13:26 (3 years ago) Link
I was at that show! Scott Miller had a friend/fan from California who went to Amherst and so Game Theory played the guy's frat house every year. One year they blew out the power and Scott came out with an acoustic and did "O Dana."
This band is hugely due for a revival. The idea of a Wes Anderson connection makes so much sense, in that both create works that seem fussed over with extra dimensions that most people wouldn't bother with. I think my favorite is Real Nighttime.

I used to listen to Lolita Nation obsessively. I remember being disappointed by Two Steps from the Middle Ages, but listened again recently and jeez, it's right up there with Big Shot Chronicles.

Reissue of first album is out today, and on Spotify. I overlooked it when I first discovered the band, but now like it a lot. Kinda new wave jerky and spiky in an interesting way.
