Recommend me some tracks to play when I DJ in a bar this weekend

So I have a general idea of what I'll be playing, some hip-hop, neptunes type stuff, and some dfa type stuff and older dfa type stuff, aswell as some house naturally.

Can people recommend tunes which bridge the gaps between those at all? Old or new once they're easily downloadable? Or even just give me your secret floorfillers or else something you think I'd like which I don't know about.

Thanks in advance.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 16:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah it's on the LowLife comp "Food" and got a separate 12" release as the post "Food" thing, "LowLife Desserts". I love 'em.

The new Taskforce CD, "Music From The Corner vol2" is also out and also great but I realise I'm preaching to the unconvertible.

Underworld - "Cowgirl"
The Flaming Lips - "The Gash" (obviously)

"Street Life" seconded but +1 isn't fast enough - it can handle +3 without sounding silly, as long as it's on 33 in the first place...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Go from house to hip hop (sort of) by using "Thrilla" by Cassius feat Ghostface and then the Streets remix.

Nick H (Nick H), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 17:07 (twenty-two years ago)

haha one of the first records I thought of was that Streets remix! Maybe I'll get the original now too.

seann, Wednesday, 26 November 2003 18:40 (twenty-two years ago)

haha my mixing is fucking awful, maybe I'll give it a go anyway, my mixing will consist of volume down, and yoinking the crossfader for the night.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 23:35 (twenty-two years ago)

The last time I DJed, I segued into a set of classic funk, punctuated by a couple of choice disco tunes and Prince's Sexy MF. The floor was filled.

Christian Rawk (Christian Rawk), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 23:48 (twenty-two years ago)

AC/DC, "Night Prowler."

lipps inc-funkytown

robin (robin), Thursday, 27 November 2003 02:26 (twenty-two years ago)

If you just played everything on this thread, it would be the messiest set EVER. The un-DJ.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Thursday, 27 November 2003 02:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Throw on one of benji b's Deviation sets and enjoy your beer.

cybele (cybele), Thursday, 27 November 2003 04:50 (twenty-two years ago)

you could make a great 2 Many DJs style mix using all these tracks

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 27 November 2003 11:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Robin, in the Bar, aka the Legal Eagle, on Saturday night from about 9 if you're up for it. Should be good fun.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 27 November 2003 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Lucky Star! Obviously!

A great segue is:

DFA tune of your choice
House of Jealous Lovers (MOrgan Geist mix)
Bucci Bag (Playgroup mix)
Lucky Star
Cop dat shit (4 x 4 mix)
Recent hip hop tune of your choice

Jacob (Jacob), Thursday, 27 November 2003 14:48 (twenty-two years ago)

working all weekend so i'll probably be too wrecked to head out..
are you playing there regularly?

robin (robin), Thursday, 27 November 2003 17:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Think we're going to do a monthly thing if we can, still talking to the venue though to make sure.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 27 November 2003 18:14 (twenty-two years ago)

based on what i've gathered of your tastes, pete from the street's list is dead-on perfect for you. also check out gramme.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 27 November 2003 20:16 (twenty-two years ago)

and download la bionda's "wanna be your lover," while you're at it!

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 27 November 2003 20:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Ronan, the Streets remix of "Thrilla" is better but the original is still good. Ghostface over house is pretty interesting.

I second the Fatboy remix of "Loser", any song which samples Father Jack is ace in my book.

Nick H (Nick H), Thursday, 27 November 2003 23:37 (twenty-two years ago)

haha Ronan's remarks about the popularity of Thin Lizzy is further proof that we live in different Irelands! But the two came together on Saturday, and Ronan played a great set. What was that Playgroup record that sounded like "You spin me round"?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 1 December 2003 10:57 (twenty-two years ago)

haha my mixing is fucking awful, maybe I'll give it a go anyway, my mixing will consist of volume down, and yoinking the crossfader for the night.

That's m'boy!

Siegbran (eofor), Monday, 1 December 2003 11:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Thank you all, it was pretty fucking cool I have to say, except I really didn't want to stop playing. I think I had the place going anyway, the DFA mix of Dance To The Underground went down a storm.

Another slightly weird highlight was playing Nothin' by Nore after You Better Let Me Love You by Richard X and Tiga. Shouldn't have worked and yet it got a big shout from the floor.

Andrew that remix was of Number One by Playgroup. I was so drunk by the end of the night I nearly died getting a taxi home with CD decks etc. Some guy paid for my fare, it was a rough weekend and I feel rougher now.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 1 December 2003 13:30 (twenty-two years ago)

And Jay-Z might be Beyonce's boyfriend as well.

Barima (Barima), Friday, 12 December 2003 05:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Britney's "Toxic" seconded. I love it. I even love the way the lyrics are essentially "Poison" by Bel Biv Devoe.

I MUST hear 'Toxic' now, then.

Barima (Barima), Friday, 12 December 2003 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah I'm playing the black strobe remix of Number One by Play Group. Thinking of the Cosmo Vitelli remix of Behind by Lacquer. Or maybe Little Scare by Cosmo himself with Benjamin Diamond if I can get the CD back off my friend.
