Flipper vs. The Germs

But I do love Flipper. I thought the Avengers were pretty great, too, as far as SF goes. I've always been told the Sleepers were great but I've never actually heard them.

anyway, i'd go with the germs by a narrow margin - although flipper were damn good, and even their 'comeback' album was listenable.

If those two could share a bill w/ the Avengers, the Screamers, and the Urinals, I'd lactate. Ack ack ack ack.

Me, I like Sex Bomb Baby! more than Album Generic Flipper. But I prefer the Generic version of "Sex Bomb" to the original 'cuz of the saxophone.

Christ on a crippled crutch. Germs are WAAAAY more "overexposed" than fargin' Minimal Man and Tuxedomoon could ever HOPE to be. And Flipper more or less = Chrome with regard to exposure: heard by too few, boned by too many.

I saw the trailer for What We Do is Secret last weekend. I think I'll probably see it. I like Germs more than Flipper.

I'm with Arthur in that this is a very hard call. Let's put it this way -- a show with the two of them would be godlike, but I'd want the Germs to headline. ;-)

Flipper would have sounded like they were falling apart, whereas the Germs would have thoroughly and actually fallen apart. What a spectacle, that bad.

Great bands both, but I'd choose Germs in the end - more exotic for the naive Italian listener.

Flipper, for the heaviness. Love the deep, thick, garbagey muckness of their sound. It has a physical presence that gets inside me and moves me around almost unconsciously. Something genuinely cro-mag and preconscious about it. Germs sound more like an elaborate art project concerning the subject of fucked-uppedness.

That's not to take anything away from the Germs.

Both bands are very psychedelic.

How can you choose? Flipper because they were funnier. Germs also great but songwriting not as goos. It could be about song length. Flipper took things to their illogical extremes whereas Germs were not so prepared. They tended to start and finish the sondgs at what felt like the right time- so Flipper wins for the excess and the humour. And the loose loose bass.

this thread hurts. i choose flipper but NO GOD and FORMING are probably the best songs out of either of them.

Flipper by a lot. love the crucial early germs tracks ('forming' 'sex boy' 'no god' 'lexicon devil'), but i hate the turn they took on GI. Flipper, on the other hand, released a near perfect album by my standards, and they seem more like a band i'd want to hang out with.

Flipper had the best album. The Germs had the best single ("Forming"). They're tied in dead people (I think). I saw Flipper soon after Generic came out. They were loud and funny.
