What's the best sound you've heard in the last 25 minutes?

A rack of three 400W spotlights falling ten feet on to the ground. The best actual sound was teh sigh of relief when a) the did not hit anyone b) they did not break.

(I hasten to add, this accident was cause by no mark students and is way outside anything I would ever usually allow in operational terms vis a vis our risk assessment. Perhaps I had not factored in the ingeneous stupidity of students).

Pulp's 'The Fear'. It was only in my head, though.

Spiiting out my mouthwash. Eh.

Arguably the sound of my contented stomach as I had something for breakfast. Or hearing my soon-to-be-ex-housemate Brian give me kind words for the going-away party I organized for him last night. Yes, that'll do.

The opening to "Giant Steps". Before that none of the sounds I've heard since waking up were capable of being 'best' since they were things like my alarm clock.

Big Star's "#1 Record', and particularly "Thirteen," made better with a hangover.

The new Melt-Banana. Their everything-and-the-kitchen-sink post- Boredoms spazz sound is pretty close to perfected here, with the most essential (English, I'm not bilingual) lyrics of any Japanese album I've ever heard. From "Moon Flavor": "The ship can leave but burst like bang!! I can't stop my heart-beat. I just slap your nose hard. I can't stop my next step. I just slap your face off. I just grab that wane and bite!"

The sound of blue wool knee-socks scratching against pale flesh.

Tres bien!

The new mac "beep" -- so mild and calming, perfect ui -- like Hal's voice.

Oh, but fuck some of the new alternate beeps - whoever thought it'd be a good idea to have chew toys make noise should be flogged with the comatose body of whoever thought it'd be a good idea to equip Cubes with the sound in obnoxious stereo.

Drive by Truckers - "Steve McQueen"

"aether" - the latest release by The Necks : just as you might imagine by the title but, if you know the band, then expect, as usual, a soft beginning with a very slow build up. just plain gorgeous, really, and much better than the live performance I just saw (where I bought the cd) which was somewhat uninspired : but that's improvisation...

'In The Bath', Lemon Jelly. (What do you do in the bath?)

this great bit of ambient techno...oh wait, that's just noise emanating from the central heating unit of the room i'm in.

The new Boredoms record. It's "I'm glad to be alive" music...I feel reborn...utter, utter genius. Erm...anyone else hear this thing?
