Continuing the 80s Europop one hit wonder theme of the Taco and Technotronic threads.

I'd say classic btw ;)

Classic... or at least a solid 8/10. I heard this on a Radio 2 'Pick of the Pops' 1983 chart a month or two ago.

Some sort of vague Fellini allusions with the lyrics...? The overwrought vocals help a lot.
The music is nifty electronic pop in the very best tradition.

A bunch of girls did a dance to this at one of those end of year shows at my school when I was about 13. I remember being very impressed, but I can't quite say if that was the music or the girls ... ;-)

It's got a great, sleazy bass riff, though, hasn't it?

A definite classic, albeit rather cheesy, but I like that ;-)

Phil; could have been both, I imagine... :-) It does have a very good rhythm for dancing, and the bass helps. Suitable enough element of cheesiness too; largely in the melodrama of the vocals and very light sounding synths.

The full versh, where the nice B-side instrumental is edited into the middle = classic!!!!!!!!!

I've never seen the video. is it cornier than the "Tarzan Boy" one?

nineteen years pass...

This is so weird but I love this song so much and I find this all delightful. I have no opinions on MdM.

lovely tune and I like Ryan's telling of how it came together:

Mac started to play the guitar as Mac DeMarco style, and I started to improvise something with the voice.

What I was singing and also what he also was singing remembered me the English group Simply Red.

So, I said: “What do you think about the title “Simply Paradise?”

Yeahhhh, the title we loved right away.

So I start to sing in my Italian spaghetti English singing nice melodies but words without sense.

And I was very happy that Mac was writing the funny with no sense phrases and he putted in nice English and he was also singing and we used some of my singing and some of his singing. And than came the idea to make like Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney in the song “The Girl Is Mine.” There we really started to have big fun and we finished the song in few hours. It was really fun, ahahahah.

Waistcoat. Whatever you want to call it.

I love the song and the video, but I'm so distracted by how much he looks like Jason Segel in it.

Yep. I think it every time I watch it and that happens multiple times a year. Strong Segel vibes.
