Ultrasound - Everything Picture - Best Wishes - A gorgeous piano version of this song, especially after the 20 min madness that's the final track.

jellybean (jellybean), Friday, 28 November 2003 12:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Neither S nor D, but more "interesting", is the short hidden track on David Holmes' "Bow Down To THe Exit Sign", which is BEFORE track one! Has anyone ever come across this on any other release?

As for "search" secret tracks, I say the one after the end of Jah Wobble and Brian Eno's "Spinner" is pretty good. As always with many hidden tracks that appear much after the end of an album, the surprise element may be involved.

peepee (peepee), Friday, 28 November 2003 12:50 (twenty-two years ago)

@ peepee:
As Heard on Radio Soulwax Pt. 2 has the Soulwax remix of "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" before track one.

willem (willem), Friday, 28 November 2003 12:51 (twenty-two years ago)

@peepee

The ash 1977 has their first ever single "Jack named the planets" and its b-side "not known" if you rewind ...

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 28 November 2003 12:54 (twenty-two years ago)

What about this mysterious hidden track on 'Stories from teh sea, stories from the city'. Was that on certain limited editions or do you have to play around/rewind a certain track?

Baaderist (Fabfunk), Friday, 28 November 2003 12:58 (twenty-two years ago)

the scanner track at the end of artificial intelligence is the first scanner tarck i heard and although i don't particularily like scanner after it is a good first scanner track to hear.

also theres a lovely track at the end of the wobble/eno disc.

gaz (gaz), Friday, 28 November 2003 13:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Search: the man or astro man cd with what appears to be a secret track at the end but actually turns out to be a guy with a dopey redneck voice saying 'whatcha waitin around for boy? there ain't no mystery track on this durn CD'

Destroy: all that crap at the end of deserter's songs by mercury rev.

neil simpson (neil simpson), Friday, 28 November 2003 13:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Robbie Williams (apparently) did the same ("Naah, I can't be bothered this time")

The one at the end of escapology is better than the rest of the album fact fans! (What's a fact fan anyway? Do they have conventions they all go to?)

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 28 November 2003 13:05 (twenty-two years ago)

all the tracks at the end of blueprint

gaz (gaz), Friday, 28 November 2003 13:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Search: Yeah Yeah Yeahs, 'Porcelain'. Given how many people have said their opinion of the band shot up based on 'Maps', they could have done with making this a proper track - the YYYs as lovelorn heartbreak kids are clearly under-represented compared to YYYs as horribly trendy party animals...

Destroy: I cannot think of anything more appropriate than the Stone Roses track already mentioned. Real nonsense.

Flyboy (Flyboy), Friday, 28 November 2003 13:07 (twenty-two years ago)

The Buzzcocks track "Mother of turds" is much worse, but that's listed so is safe here...

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 28 November 2003 13:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Search:

Audio Bullys '?' at the end of 'Ego War' - dunno what it's called but has a great murky bassline and haunting tone

'Oxbow lakes' at the end of The Orb's greatest hits compilation

'My Life Music' at the end of 'Kittenz & Thee Glitz'

stevem (blueski), Friday, 28 November 2003 13:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Search:

The track on the first Coral album where they go on about time travel being amoral (coz it is.)

The one on the new Atmosphere album where Slug goes on about how great the midwest is.

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Friday, 28 November 2003 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Search: Boards Of Canada - "1986 Summer Fire" on Twoism. One of the prettiest BOC trax of all.

Schwingung (Damian), Friday, 28 November 2003 13:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Light Years by Kylie has "Password" at the beginning as a rewind-secret-track also. Is glorious aces also.

Alex in Doncaster (Alex in Doncaster), Friday, 28 November 2003 13:22 (twenty-two years ago)

(overuse of "also", sorry)

Alex in Doncaster (Alex in Doncaster), Friday, 28 November 2003 13:23 (twenty-two years ago)

oh oh oh ALSO at the end of At The Club by Kenickie there is "Montrose Gimps It Up For Charity" which is BRILLIANT and at the end of "Get In" there's that other one which is all churny and twinkling and EVEN MORE BRILLIANT but I can never ever remember what it's called. If anyone knows and can remind me it would be much appreciated, I think it may possibly be favourite-hidden-track-Ever.

Alex in Doncaster (Alex in Doncaster), Friday, 28 November 2003 13:34 (twenty-two years ago)

You are jonny X and I claim my clam

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 28 November 2003 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Shhh mark shhhhhhhhh

Alex in Doncaster (Alex in Doncaster), Friday, 28 November 2003 13:50 (twenty-two years ago)

montrose gives it up for charity is my favourite song ever. the fact that emmy kate montrose is thee sexiest woman to walk the earth is neither here nor there. possibly.

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 28 November 2003 14:04 (twenty-two years ago)

The before-track-1 track on Autechre's EP7 is pretty great. (Only on Warp versions; not on the version licensed to Nothing in the US.)

Phil Freeman (Phil Freeman), Friday, 28 November 2003 14:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Robyn Hitchcock's "Gene Hackman" at the end of Jewels For Sophia.

Erik Tripper (Erik Tripper), Friday, 28 November 2003 15:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I swear the best tracks on Mayday's OLD BLOOD are the ones that are hidden before Track 1. But really, whatta pain in the arse to get to them.

doug watson (solid air), Friday, 28 November 2003 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

the 10+ minutes of rumbling basstone on Massive attacks last lp. yawnsville.

Search:
The ones at the end of both McLusky records.

Chris Jones (Crackity Jones), Friday, 28 November 2003 19:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I also remember the bonus track on Orblivion being really cool.

Vinnie (vprabhu), Friday, 28 November 2003 21:46 (twenty-two years ago)

About 5 minutes after "Just Like Honey" on the Lost in Translation soundtrack, you can hear Bill Murray singing Roxy Music's "More Than This"... if you are downloading it, just look out for the 12 minute version of Just Like Honey.

Conor (Conor), Friday, 28 November 2003 21:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Search: PSB track at the end of Very. Sung (not rapped) by Chris Lowe! Sweet.

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Friday, 28 November 2003 21:52 (twenty-two years ago)

The hidden track on SFA's "Guerilla" is absolutely ace. Possibly the best track on the album.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Friday, 28 November 2003 22:44 (twenty-two years ago)

The first band to use the before-track-one gimmick was Course of Empire, I believe, on their "Initiation" album, which had a bunch of creatively hidden tracks.

Ben, Friday, 28 November 2003 22:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Do people still consider "Train In Vain" a bonus track these days? It's been listed on the album's back cover for at least two decades by now, right?

The first answer which comes to mind for me right now is "Clap" from the Wu-Tang Clan's "The W" album.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Friday, 28 November 2003 22:56 (twenty-two years ago)

S: The mix at the end of Jean Grae's Bootleg of a Bootleg EP. The track that she does over the Scarface song is better than half of the actual EP.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Friday, 28 November 2003 22:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Where's that Wu-Tang track?

Baaderist (Fabfunk), Saturday, 29 November 2003 08:20 (twenty-two years ago)

What Phil Freeman said. It's also a bit scary because it sounds (and feels, from the way it is hidden) like a peek at the pre-conscious from which the EP is about to emerge (ie., Autechre have a clue about how to include secret tracks).

nestmanso (nestmanso), Saturday, 29 November 2003 08:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Beck, "Diamond Bollocks," on Mutations

jaymc (jaymc), Saturday, 29 November 2003 08:52 (twenty-two years ago)

stevem's right again - the audio bullys extra is great.
there's a great bit where he goes :
"to all u pricks...u know who u are...f*ck you"
dead good that.

also : hard to believe but the longpigs hidden last track on
their debut is *fantastic*. easily the best thing on there.
that's my stock answer to this quest.

piscesboy, Saturday, 29 November 2003 10:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Seems like sort've a tired gimmick in 2003, no?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 29 November 2003 10:45 (twenty-two years ago)

There's only so many ways to "hide" a secret track. Now if somebody would steganograph an mp3 into the tracks, extricable only with the special software that you'll find if you type in the web address that appears when you've figured out how to put the eight inlay cards in order--that might be something. (Well, it would still be a secret track.)

nestmanso (nestmanso), Saturday, 29 November 2003 11:16 (twenty-two years ago)

secret track of the future = lathe-cut into the actual cd, and you need a turntable to play it.

the surface noise (electricsound), Saturday, 29 November 2003 11:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Evil Dildo at the end of Placebo's "Without you I'm Nothing"

scott henderson, Saturday, 29 November 2003 13:02 (twenty-two years ago)

"Top Breed" by Czars is hidden before track one on
"the ugly people people vs. the beautiful people." I'd probly destroy it.

Hunter (Hunter), Saturday, 29 November 2003 19:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Definite Search: Oceans, the hidden track on A New Morning by Suede. Very pretty and melodic for when you are in a nostalgic mood.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Saturday, 29 November 2003 19:34 (twenty-two years ago)

The one on Von Bondies - Lack of Communication is A+

David Allen, Saturday, 29 November 2003 19:56 (twenty-two years ago)

"Tonight I'm Gonna Give the Drummer Some," by Amy Rigby. On her Middlescence album.

Jazzbo (jmcgaw), Sunday, 30 November 2003 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

The one at the end of Pet Shop Boys' "Very"... I only remember it vaguely, but fondly.

Tom May (Tom May), Sunday, 30 November 2003 17:20 (twenty-two years ago)

the bonus track on RJD2's "Deadringer," "Here's What's Left." Best song on the album.
