alright, when i was visiting my parents this thanksgiving i went rooting around the attic. i came across a box with some cassette tapes that i had forgotten to take with me when i moved out right after college. and i found this one ... i must've gotten it when i was 14 or so, i think i listened to it once and never again. but 80s synthpop is in again, and i took it home with me. i ask you, ILMers, should i give this thing a listen?

real embarrassing cassettes in that box that stayed there ... reo speedwagon (TWO of them!), the hooters (growing up around philly was NOT all good), europe's the final countdown and yngwie's trilogy (those last 2 are NOT mine, they are my younger sister's and somehow got into the box I SWEAR IT!)

Dude, I totally bought their best-of a week or two ago! It's worth a listen or two. Not really any substance, but the prefab cheesiness of the keyboard sound is really cool in a sort of synth-rockist way. Can I use the term synth-rockist? Maybe I should say abstract-minimalist-toy-popness or some shit like that. Anyways, the drum machines do sound like toys, which I love.

You know I was just listening to CBC-overnight where they play public radio from around the world. Tonight they had swedish radio and I heard a traditional folk version of "always something there to remind me" sung by a lady in swedish. I thought that was their original song, it was so wierd! I think it might be their own lyrics for a traditional melody anyways.

"Always Something There To Remind Me" was written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Although I'm not 100% sure, I believe that the original recording was by Dionne Warwick.
