I love that Pixies song and I also love the Tom Waits album. Did he name it after the Pixies classic?

Not one of my favourite Pixies songs actually - seems I'm in the minority there. It's just a bit discordant and lurching. Great lyrics tho.

the bone machine was an instrument he built of animal bones and maybe some human ones. and i doubt he ever heard an album track by the pixies, though they are both into the same jokey-macabre stuff.
