Zoot Woman.. S/D/C/D

Band I've been very curious about. I have the "Living In A Magazine" 12" single (on Wall Of Sound records.. from around their first record I take it) and it is great.. B-side, remix, everything on it. The album associated with it is the one that has them on the cover, I think. Is it worth it?

I listened to a preview of the *latest* record, and was sorely disappointed. WHERE ARE THE BEATS?

They were taken out and shot.

I don't think Zoot Woman would use guns. They would use lethal doses of hair spray.

'Grey Day' video and interview here. Also didn't know one of the guys was the Les Rhymes Digitales dude.

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 1 December 2003 18:19 (twenty-one years ago)

might've heard "grey day" actually, if so it obv wasnt very memorable

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Monday, 1 December 2003 18:31 (twenty-one years ago)

the guy in the middle is jacques lu cont, i think. i think we're about due for a storming LRD album.

vahid (vahid), Monday, 1 December 2003 19:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Jacques is the guy on the right as you look at it!

The first Zoot Woman album is great too, if you like fairly wet 80s production, and I guess I do. Information First is probably their best song.

Yeah I'm not so curious about the new album cos basically I read in Jockey Slut about how they'd abandoned their silly 80s phase and made a serious non image based album, it sounded fucking awful! I mean why would they do that? Grey Day is a little too Death In Vegas and not enough Hall and Oates.

Definitely get the album donut bitch!

Oh and the remix Mitch is talking about is wicked too, it's Jacques Lu Cont under his Paper Faces alias, really like that.

And I can only hope we're due for a storming LRD album obviously, sooner the better.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 1 December 2003 20:28 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, that settles that. I'm definitely getting the first album then.

I never quite "got" LRD though.. I just love the "Music Makes You Lose Control" single with the version with the very Watt-ish bass on it and is kinda fast and sparse. "Music makes you lose control (control control control control control control ..."

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 1 December 2003 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

the first album is ok, but the two singles are really the only standout tracks. the actual track "living in a magazine" is really great though.

Isn't that 'Control, control, control...' one LRD's remix of the Faint's 'The Conductor'? If not, then search that one anyway.

Bill E (bill_e), Monday, 1 December 2003 21:55 (twenty-one years ago)

hmm I disagree Jim, I reckon Information First, Jessie, and the cover of the Model are all pretty good. I guess I can see how people would think they are crap though.

LRD's best track is the Nik Kershaw track I reckon, either that or the Whirlpool Productions remix.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 1 December 2003 22:21 (twenty-one years ago)

JLC's best track overall is the Felix remix tho innit

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

i love the new zoot woman album, sure its a little unoriginal, but song for song it holds up well as an album, its not dance music..

jk_ (jk@gabba), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 15:55 (twenty-one years ago)

The first album is indeed fantastic, it's actually very consistent, only one, maybe two filler tracks. "Jessie", "Living In A Magazine", "Information First", "The Model", "Losing Sight", "It's Automatic" - all great songs. One of my favourite 2001 albums. I can't believe that so many people missed the hype for that one at the time though!

The new one is indeed very dissappointing, only "Hope In The Mirror" comes close to the quality level of the debut.

Siegbran (eofor), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 18:05 (twenty-one years ago)

'It's Automatic' only came out as a single within the last 12 months which has confused me no end with regards to whether they had more than one album.

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 18:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah I love that track Jessie, there's a wicked filtered synth riff in the middle of it which is SCREAMING to be nicked for a housey remix.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 19:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Please tell me that a new LRD album is due soon! The last one was from '99, if I'm not mistaken....

Rudolf (Rudolf), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 05:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I've heard nothing except that he is working on one. With the amount of remixing he's done this year who knows.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

four years pass...

This new song is good, at least for the first listen:

"it's automatic" is the only song I ever really liked by them. everything else seemed to be almost what they were going for...
