Thanks, Dan.

It sounds like you have a short in your flux capacitor. Send me your iPod and I can fix it. Include $15 for shipping and handling.

I think that you need either a firewire or USB 2.0 port in order to hook it up to your comp.. isnt that what it states in the requirements?

I'm surprised that a year-old PC doesn't have Firewire. Are you sure? If you really don't have it, you'll need to buy a FIREWIRE CARD. Get whichever brand the guys at the store recommend for your kind of computer (make sure you tell them you're running Windows XP). It shouldn't be too expensive.

my year old computer running xp only has usb 1.1 and i've been using a 3rd gen ipod with no problems and the transfer speeds are quite fast. maybe i'm just lucky, though.

i do all my updating manually and only add a few files at a time. if
you want to fill the ipod up in one shot, it may well take a long time.

you'll need to buy an ipod dock connector cable for connections to usb2.o and firewire for about $20. a firewire card is probably only $40-50, so it may be better to go that way.

I'm using a firewire card in my wireless slot and it works spiffy.

Dean Gulberry, that cracked me up.

Dan, I got confused about this too, and here's what I found out: your PC has an equivalent to a Firewire input that's called something like the ie1134 port or something... and the iPods for windows come with a little adapter that let you use it the same way a Firewire port works. If you look around on Google a little bit you'll find some references to this type of port, and your computer almost definitely has it, especially since it's not that old.

I just wish I could fucking afford an iPod.

I can afford one!

I just can't decide if I need one or not.

I have a first-generation I-pod. it's only 5GB, which kind of sucks. However, I like the design better than the new version. My scroll wheel actually turns, and there are no buttons.

it's 1394

look around a bit for info on firewire card compatibility - i think there is some info somewhere at ephpod. apparently not all chipsets on the f.w. cards work so hot with the ipods (?)

Or send me $12; I've got a manual for this type of thing.
