What about the new Liz Phair? I don't believe he reviewed it for CG, but his thoughts on it in that Voice piece were very positive. I could easily see it placing high on his end-of-the-year list. Whitechocolatespacegg, if I recall correctly, made his top ten in its year.

I thought Libertines was a late vote from last year but I'm probably wrong.

Oh yeah, Josh is right. Both Liz Phair and Yo La Tengo's latest have A's based on those articles if you look up the artists in the larger CG.

The Libertines: Up the Bracket [Rough Trade]
Liz Phair: Liz Phair [Capitol]
Yo La Tengo: Summer Sun [Matador]

There's also nine A-or-betters in his annual compilation roundup. Still, that's kinda depressing.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Sunday, 18 January 2004 21:04 (twenty years ago) link

how many does he usually have in a year though? His Top Ten usually includes a few A-'s, doesn't it?

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 18 January 2004 21:06 (twenty years ago) link

I don't think it's ever gotten below 10 A-or-betters a year, counting compilations.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Sunday, 18 January 2004 21:14 (twenty years ago) link

I think the only times his Dean's List had a mere ten A-or-better albums was in 1975 and 1997. Not sure about the last three years, though.

yow, my bad.

Would the recent Missy Elliot and Wrens A's be additions? And I was reading the review of Lyrics Born - the review reads like the record could be an A too.

See, him being totally around the bend about Liz Phair leaves a perfectly keyhole-shaped quantum-karma void I can fill by being totally around the bend about Alicia Keys. Harmony reigns.
