interviewed lambchop today. nice guy. but not a sound-bite sort of fellow. got some good quotes though - but the majority of snappy sound-bites are mine! ha ha. johnny mercer with a 21st century pop culture bible. name me other artists whose music you love but have a hard time talking about it.

though in reviewing the notes - i think i really like his mary taylor moore/husker du spiel! hooray. the new lambchop is almost religious in its intensity. i felt like lighting candles and wearing gothy type clothing during the interview 'cause i am worshipping lambchop's new one so much lately.

What's the new one like? I loved their albums beforehand but found the last one exceptionally dull. Is the new one more varied, or is it more of the same?

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 22:18 (twenty-one years ago)

it's varied - a double album - though the second album is more dark in nature. he told me that he wants them considered seperate albums and not a dual-deal. but wots it like? the ghostly negative non-influence is still there - you know - alt.country/philly soul/plaintive vocals - and he has written some of the best unreleased jimmy webb string arrangements for this one. the second one 'rocks it' ... and almost sounds like sisters of mercy (the nuns) singing leonard cohen songs with a weird berlin-like trilogy of bowie madness. he admitted that he quit his job and spent all his time on this material. sounds like it. probably the best lambchop album yet. the lyrics - perfect.

the new version of "the hustle" rules

his cover of prince's when you were mine is beautiful. one of my favorite songs. slowing it down and abstracting the vocals brings out new layers in it.

Seems a shame that there's not more Lambchop love. Symptomatic of lo-fi that great passions remain unstirred? I saw them open for Yo La Tengo at the end of the century just passed. Not many bands, other than Shafi Hadi or Hamiett Bluiett travel with bari sax-and both of these required it. Long live Lambchop

the hustle is so fantastic. saw them play the roundhouse earlier this year - may even have been last year - and it was the best show i've seen them do

Shanty Brunch (stevie), Saturday, 8 July 2017 20:19 (seven years ago)

one of my favorite bands. there must be other and bigger threads on ILM about Lambchop though. :-)
