Here's a good way to get a John Cage MP3- do it yourself!!!!!!
  • Run Goldwave!!!!!
  • Select "File > New"!!!!!!
  • In the "new sound" dialog, select "CD" in the "quicksound" settings, then set the length of the file as "4:31.000"!!!!!!
  • Save the file was a normal WAV!!!!!
  • MP3 the WAV!!!!!
  • In the ID3 tag, set the Artist to "John Cage" and the title to "4:31"!!!!!
Hey presto: instant John Cage MP3- without even being on the interhighway netweb!!!!!!

are there other cage mp3's on the site other than the ones here: http://www.ubu.com/sound/cage.html ?

these only seem to focus on his spoken word... although it's nice to have access to that John Cage vs Sun Ra record, if only to be reassured there's no reason to drop collector's rates on it...

Ubuweb sure is an amazing resource though. I've spent hours motoring about in there. Thank you Ken Goldsmith.

Oops. Yes indeedy, it's "4:33," not "4:31."
