As the gents in question have just released their first best-of (see above), I thought it was high time for the hirsute, clog-wearin' crusties to get their proper goddamn due. Sound off.

1. "51st State"
2. "Vengeance"
3. "White Coats"
4. "I Love the World"
5. "Living in the Rose"
6. "Stupid Questions"
7. "The Hunt"
8. "Archway Towers"
9. "Lights Go Out"
10. "Here Comes the War"

couldn't they just re-release Ghost of Cain? Most of this stuff was off there although there seems to be one or two from the album before.

I hadn't thought about these guys for ages until I was reorganising my vinyl and found Cain great memories of this stuff.

Luddite martyrs and all that

Thunder & Consolation is well worth checking out as well, hector.

that is the other one! I couldnt remember the name for the life of me. I think that was one of my eventually regretable cassete only 80's purchases

This was a best-of too wasn't it?

In fact arguably this one was too:

Anyway, my nominations:

Great Expectations

Spirit Of The Falklands
No Rest
51st State
White Coats
Stupid Questions
Green & Gray
Higher Wall

I used to work with their (original?) drummer, Rob Waddington.

In no particular order...

1. "Better Than Them"
2. "51st State"
3. "Smalltown England"
4. "Great Expectations"
5. "Heroes"
6. "Christian Militia"
7. "No Rest"
8. "No Greater Love"
9. "Brave New World"
10. "The Charge"

For me, once you've reached 'Ghost Of Cain' it's downhill from there (also capable of the odd gem like 'The Charge', and 'Stupid Questions' was pretty damn good itself).

eleven years pass...

A bit weird seeing them at a metal festival I guess but a very solid performance nevertheless imo:

(is there a NMA drinking game where you count the number of times "mountain(s)" are mentioned in the lyrics? It feels like it's a whole lot)
