Broheems (diamond), Friday, 5 December 2003 21:52 (twenty-one years ago)

hstencil, i was trying to have songs that mentioned cowboys or indians within the lyrics. legendary stardust cowboy doesnt really mention it but he acts enough like a cowboy.
and...id rather not broheems....haha

thomas de'aguirre (biteylove), Friday, 5 December 2003 22:12 (twenty-one years ago)

"Pocahontas" by Neil Young?
(No mention of cowboys, but a white "trapper" and, um, Marlon Brando.)

Buffy Saint Marie -- "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee".
(Again, no cowboys, but there's federal marshalls and the FBI in there.)

David A. (Davant), Friday, 5 December 2003 22:14 (twenty-one years ago)

ELO "Wild West Hero"
ELO "Showdown"
ELO "Laredo Tornado"
Dire Straits "Once Upon A Time in the West"

(now you know why Wilco sound the way they do!! I like them btw)

dave q, Friday, 5 December 2003 22:17 (twenty-one years ago)

dave I've been meaning to ask you for Dire Straits suggestions. It's getting to the point where I own so much classic rock, there's not much left to buy. I'm now buying Joni Mitchell albums fer chrissakes. The other day I was fingering a copy of Dire Straits' debut.. good place to start? Worth $2?

ok, tom how about-

J.D. Blackfoot - "The Song of Crazy Horse"
The Outlaws - "(Ghost) Riders in the Sky"
Kid Rock - "Cowboy"
Rex Allen - "Don't Go Near the Indians"
Bang - "Redman"
Glen Campbell - "Rhinestone Cowboy"

Broheems (diamond), Friday, 5 December 2003 22:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Tim McGraw, "Indian Outlaw"

Sonny A. (Keiko), Friday, 5 December 2003 22:37 (twenty-one years ago)

They were duelin', Doolin-Dalton.
High or low, it was the same:
Easy money and faithless women,
Red-eye whiskey for the pain.
Go down, Bill Dalton, it must be God's will,
Two brothers lyin' dead in Coffeyville,
Two voices call to you from where they stood.
Lay down your law books now,
They're no damn good.
Better keep on movin', Doolin-Dalton,
'Til your shadow sets you free.
If you're fast and if you're lucky,
You will never see that hangin' tree.

Well, the towns lay out across the dusty plains
Like graveyards filled with tombstones, waitin' for the names.
And a man could use his back or use his brains,
But some just went stir crazy, Lord, 'cause nothin' ever changed
'Til Bill Doolin met Bill Dalton.
He was workin' cheap, just bidin' time.
Then he laughed and said, "I'm goin'"
And so he left that peaceful life behind

dave q, Friday, 5 December 2003 22:39 (twenty-one years ago)

let me clarify a little, it doesnt have to contain both cowboys and indians in the same song. im alternating betweent he topics in the cd so its probably better that they dont. keep em coming.

tom cleveland (tom cleveland), Friday, 5 December 2003 22:53 (twenty-one years ago)

are the indians on one side and cowboys on the other?

amateur!st (amateurist), Friday, 5 December 2003 22:54 (twenty-one years ago)

amateur!st (amateurist), Friday, 5 December 2003 22:54 (twenty-one years ago)

"I'M an Indian too" by don armando's second avenue rhumba band.... if you like gay disco.

October Country - Cowboys and Indians

from the liner notes: "More of a conceptual type of thing. Perhaps influenced by the Beach Boys' 'Heroes and Villains.'"

youn, Friday, 5 December 2003 23:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Chipz - Cowboy

Siegbran (eofor), Friday, 5 December 2003 23:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Only indian suggestions forthcoming from me; there are whole compilations of cowboy songs, fer chrissakes; dig up some Roy Rogers or something for that:

"Indian Sunset" -- Elton John
"Half Breed" -- Cher
"Ten Little Indians" -- Can
"Cherokee" -- Ray Noble
"Cherokee Maiden" -- Merle Haggard
"Apache" -- The Ventures

Nom De Plume (Nom De Plume), Friday, 5 December 2003 23:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Ted Nugent, "Great White Buffalo"

dave q, Friday, 5 December 2003 23:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, yeah, what's that Patti Smith song where she seems to think she's a native American (as opposed to the ones where she thinks she's Mick Jagger or Rimbaud)? There's probably something by The Cult with the same conceit, but if I won't bother looking up Patti Smith titles I'll be damned if I'm doing research on Ian Astbury.

Nom De Plume (Nom De Plume), Saturday, 6 December 2003 00:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Jim Morrison to thread!

dave q, Saturday, 6 December 2003 00:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Alice Cooper "Desperado"
Roxy Music "Prairie Rose"
Kansas "Monolith"
Venom "Manitou"

The Patti Smith song is "Ghost Dance" (on Easter).

David A. (Davant), Saturday, 6 December 2003 01:00 (twenty-one years ago)

No "John Wayne Is Big Leggy" yet? Hee hee. Don't even know if it counts.

OleM (OleM), Saturday, 6 December 2003 01:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Rex Allen - "Don't Go Near the Indians"

One of the weirdest hits ever.

Colin Beckett (Colin Beckett), Saturday, 6 December 2003 01:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Tori Amos, "honey"

haha

Blood and sparkles (bloodandsparkles), Saturday, 6 December 2003 01:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Thin Lizzy - "Cowboy Song". Golden Smog did it, too, but worse.

briania, Saturday, 6 December 2003 04:23 (twenty-one years ago)

The Smoke - "Cowboys and Indians" would make a great opening track.

The lyrics start: "As we resume our saga of the cowboys and indians in Sunnyville..."

bitter_buffalo, Sunday, 7 December 2003 02:23 (twenty-one years ago)

The Turtles "I'm Chief Kamanawanalea (We're the Royal Macadamia Nuts)" -- Such an amazing song, you're mix isn't complete without it.

Slick RickĀ  "Indian Girl (An Adult Story)" -- wow, i haven't heard this album since i was in jr high or highschool. i think this suggestion is going to make me go out and buy it.

JaXoN (JasonD), Sunday, 7 December 2003 02:35 (twenty-one years ago)

nearly every song on Adam and The Ants' album 'kings of the wild frontier' is about Indians (the ones that aren't are about pirates...bonus) My pick would be 'the human beings' from that album.

'blackfoot pawnee cheyanne crow. apache, arapaho'

or how about: The Vandals "I want to be a cowboy"

tylero, Sunday, 7 December 2003 03:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Chris LeDoux is the king of cowboy music. Download "You Just Can't See Him from the Road" and "Hooked on an 8 Second Ride."

"Chief Barrel Belly" -- GBV

"Ten Little Indians" -- Harry Nilson
"Lasso from El Paso" -- Kinky Freidman
"Johnny Cash" -- Bury Me Not

christoff (christoff), Monday, 8 December 2003 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

"Indians!" by Colin Newman. Doesn't actually have much to do with Indians as such, but is just a good laugh. Doesn't really fit in with the theme of the mix then, though.

Has anyone mentioned "Pocahontas" yet?

Rob M (Rob M), Monday, 8 December 2003 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Cuyahoga - REM

may pang (maypang), Monday, 8 December 2003 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)

"Liquid Indian" - Guided by Voices
"Eye of Fatima pt. 1" - Camper Van Beethoven - which has cowboys on acid looking like Egyptian cartoons.

BrianB (BrianB), Monday, 8 December 2003 19:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Cowboys in Africa - Bush Tetras
