Cop Shoot Cop and How ILM has influenced your CD shopping?

As I was strolling with my fingers through the 5 euro bin on a used CD store, I found 3 Cop Shoot Cop cd's (Consumer Revolt, Ask Questions Later, Release). Remembering the interventions of ILM's own Alex in NYC, I quickly grabbed all three and headed for the counter, asking to listen at least one of them quickly to take all three in the case of enjoying that one (as the store has a policy of "No 5 Euro CD listening". He agreed (as I was standing with a pile of 7 cd's total to take), and as I started to listen to the groove on "Ask Questions Later", I thought 'shit, if I wasn't on ILM, I would miss all this great music!!'. I took all three.
So, what I'm asking is (and I know that this topic has been covered by a lot of threads threads, but...) how did ILM affect your cd purchases, in taste, quantity, etc? I know it has affected mine
(helping to expand my CD collection A LOT).

RJG: I apologize for you being a grumpy puss. JP: Congrats on your find. You'll get a lot out of those records, I think.

I love that pig blood splattered cover...

Alex, what other canonical releases by Cop Shoot Cop should I search? I guess the only album lacking is "White Noise", right?

Ah, you mean this?

Yeah, that's a beaut!

what other canonical releases by Cop Shoot Cop should I search?

Well, Headkick Facsimile (see cassette above) was sadly never released on disc, but can by had on cassette (if you're swift) or on very pricey vinyl. White Noise is actually my favorite of their studio albums....sort've the chrysalis period between their skronkier pigfuck sound and their pseudo-industrial sound. I'm a zealot, however, when it comes to Cop Shoot Cop, so my advice should probably taken with a shaker of salt (next to Killing Joke, they are me all time faves). If it's the songwriting you appreciate, you should really check out Firewater (Tod [A]'s current band), who already have four albums out (and a covers album about to come out). They're an entirely different type of band, but Tod's lyrical bent is the same (if slightly cheerier). If it's the SKRONK of C$C you like, you should try to track down the Red Expendables album (C$C without Tod). It's far from their finest hour, but worth it for the curious. Incidentally, so much of their stuff can be found as mp3s on the C$C site, notably....

demos & rareities:

album tracks:

And some cuts by Dig Dat Hole (Tod & Phil's proto-C$C band):

Enjoy!

i think ILM has only influenced my CD downloading so far, thank god.

Vic (Vic), Saturday, 6 December 2003 10:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Alex: thanx a lot. I will start to download stuff in a minute. I've listened to some Firewater (that one on a metal case, Ponzi's Scheme or something like that), but I think it would take some more listening for me to get into it.

Vic: I'm a cd addict, and as I too download songs of bands I don't know to see if they're of my liking, I end up buying up the cd's if can find them cheap - and fortunately for me, I've been able to find LOTS of great music cheap on used CD stores, because all the bands/artists that store employees don't know, they throw to the cheap bins.

Incidentally, might I also recommend Skeleton Key, if you're into C$C. Simillar aesthetic.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 6 December 2003 10:53 (twenty-two years ago)

...and Barkmarket, for that matter.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 6 December 2003 10:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I've been considering picking up a Cop Shoot Cop record for a long time, but I have never really come across them in the used bin. Barkmarket is another band I have been curious about, but I haven't come across them in the used bin.

I really like the first Phylr record, which is another project by Jim Coleman.

Music that my interest was piqued via ILM, some I had heard of before but never searched out until after reading various things around here.

Isis
Neurosis
Bark Psychosis
Durutti Column
Interpol
Radio 4
Dead Meadow
Eric's Trip
Oneida
Ruins

90% of the music I got into over the last year has been through an ILM intro. This is my "music press" and at the moment I am buying up what I don't have off of various ILMers end of year lists.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Saturday, 6 December 2003 16:27 (twenty-two years ago)

So...thanks to Strongo and Nick Southall for introducing me to M83.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Saturday, 6 December 2003 16:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Stuff I discovered due to ILM intervention:

Boredoms
Cop Shoot Cop
Medicine
Adorable
Archers of Loaf
Buckethead
Buzzcocks
Gang of Four
Levitation
Lightning Bolt
Lilys
Long Fin Killie
Mastodon
Pale Saints
Quickspace
Straitjacket Fits
The Wedding Present
Wire

and I must be forgetting something.

JP Almeida (JP Almeida), Saturday, 6 December 2003 16:45 (twenty-two years ago)

A few years ago I realized that all of my friends had essentially stagnated, and I was one of only two people in my social circle that still felt the need to explore music I wasn't already familiar with. Hence, getting recommendations for new stuff was almost impossible--people were only recommending artists that I was already completely familiar with.
ILX is very helpful as it serves to suggest new artists and also forces me to re-evaluate my opinions about certain genres and artists I had only passing familiarity with.

dizzee rascal, which I doubt I ever would have heard of over in the US (at least until next year).
