Copy-protected CDs are messed up

Today I went to buy M83's CD, but it was copy-protected, so I can't listen to it on my ipod, so I didn't buy it, so I was upset, so I wrote an email to EMI complaining, so I feel better.

But what the f?ck?

Fat Chucks doesn't mention this CD on his Corrupt CD site. Please report it to him here, so he can add it to the list.

The ipod thing is just one thing, what is considerably worse is several car players and DVD players don't play those copy protected CDs either.

So make an analog copy onto a CDR.

all the new japan and david sylvian remasters are copy-protected, but since you can already find them on the file-sharing networks one wonders what the point was. other than that i was going to buy all of them, and now i'm not going to buy any of them.

I re-bought Hail To The Thief just so I could have a copy that wasn't copy-protected - my original copy wouldn't play on my computer or Discman, so fuck that.

I have never had any problem playing copy protected CDs on my Discman, but the car stereo certainly doesn't like "Hail To The Thief".

Are all the editions of HTTF copy-protected? Mine doesn't seem to be, and it plays fine in the computer...

My guess is that it only happens with the limited-edition cd's, as all people I know that had those, weren't able to play it on their car stereos.

Ah, but mine is a limited edition one too......

I didn't buy the limited edition one, and my car CD still doesn't play it.

(Like I told the retailer, why should I pay more to get a CD that doesn't fit where all the other CDs I have are put) :-)

it matters what country you are in. the same release may or may not have copy-protection depending on where it was released. also, some car stereos can handle copy-protected CDs, some can't. it also depends on what type of copy-protection is used. different companies use different methods.

I bought Hail To The Theif in Japan, and I was able to copy it.

It seems that CDs in Japan are clearly labeled when it comes to copy-protection. Copy-protected CDs have a label that explicitly spells out the restrictions.
