gor.

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 6 December 2003 18:15 (twenty-one years ago)

between 65 and 68 maybe i dont hate the 60s anymore.

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 6 December 2003 18:16 (twenty-one years ago)

please tell me that Vanilla Fudge covered the Pixies all slow-like and organ-filled twenty years before the pixies started.

btw, were the Afghan Whigs the Vanilla Fudge of the 90s?

this was probably a conscious exclusion, but how about "Here She Comes Now" or "I Heard Her Call My Name"?

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 6 December 2003 18:20 (twenty-one years ago)

that said one day you C700 folx are gonna get random e-mails a couple years from now wanting copies of these things. And I'll send you lotsa money for 'em, whether or not you want it.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 6 December 2003 18:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Damn Anthony, just what i was thinking... I'd love to have any of 'em!

Phil Dokes (sunny), Saturday, 6 December 2003 18:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Right now I got too much other stuff to listen to. But soon I'm going to crave these puppies.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 6 December 2003 18:28 (twenty-one years ago)

awwwwwwwwwwwwww shit!

nate detritus (natedetritus), Saturday, 6 December 2003 19:01 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, i bet this is amazing...non-canonical to boot. how long did it take you to come up with the tracklist jody?

disco exploding inevitable (disco stu), Saturday, 6 December 2003 19:14 (twenty-one years ago)

a couple of very intense days. i tried to stick with more non-canonical tracks/artists as a rule (to answer anthony's question) but a few did make their way in there.

bad jode (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 6 December 2003 19:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm superglad "No Expectations" made the cut.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 6 December 2003 19:28 (twenty-one years ago)

this is awesome jody!!

geeta (geeta), Saturday, 6 December 2003 19:30 (twenty-one years ago)

jody I will bring you maple syrup if you make a copy of this for me!

s1utsky (slutsky), Saturday, 6 December 2003 19:50 (twenty-one years ago)

no 129 should be at no 1 (and hendrix?) but otherwise can't complain. ties in with my tropicalia phase too.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 6 December 2003 20:17 (twenty-one years ago)

haha it's not a list!

bad jode (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 6 December 2003 20:27 (twenty-one years ago)

My one complaint is no Poppy Family, but otherwsie, awesome.

Colin Beckett (Colin Beckett), Saturday, 6 December 2003 20:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Great list Jody,1968 was mankind's greatest year for music IMO.Can't believe you didn't put anything from The Free Design on it (You Could be Born again).

Paul R (paul R), Saturday, 6 December 2003 20:39 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry jode: thought it was a list.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 6 December 2003 20:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Great list Jody,1968 was mankind's greatest year for music IMO.Can't believe you didn't put anything from The Free Design on it (You Could be Born again).

I didn't use Free Design for the same reason I didn't use Silver Apples (and almost didn't use Os Mutantes) -- they've all acquired this sort of cliched freshman-level "esoteric" cachet and I thought that for token outsider picks they were too obvious.

bad jode (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 6 December 2003 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Not flavour of the month then?Shame.I'd have put a bit more bubblegum/softpop on the list. Some great picks though.

Paul R (paul R), Saturday, 6 December 2003 21:08 (twenty-one years ago)

The Love and Subotnick tracks are from 1967. Great tracklisting otherwise.

VMP, Saturday, 6 December 2003 21:17 (twenty-one years ago)

"Alone Again Or" qualifies b/c the single charted in '68. I'm pretty sure the Subotnick is '68.

bad jode (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 6 December 2003 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

"otherwise"

bad jode (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 6 December 2003 21:49 (twenty-one years ago)

i kiss u i kiss u i kiss u

M Matos (M Matos), Sunday, 7 December 2003 02:57 (twenty-one years ago)

but no Beatles? I'm genuinely surprised given JBR's non-kneejerkiness on the matter (either way I mean)

M Matos (M Matos), Sunday, 7 December 2003 02:59 (twenty-one years ago)

oh wait just saw the non-canon thing. hmmm. oh well.

M Matos (M Matos), Sunday, 7 December 2003 03:01 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry. and i realized at the last minute that i left out the kinks' "big sky" (which i originally had in the folder i was working from but which i guess i accidentally deleted). damn damn damn.

bad jode (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 7 December 2003 03:28 (twenty-one years ago)

you can always modify if you want. not that you necessarily need to--I'm really looking fwd to hearing this!

M Matos (M Matos), Sunday, 7 December 2003 03:36 (twenty-one years ago)

(except Richie Havens, that is.)

M Matos (M Matos), Sunday, 7 December 2003 11:49 (twenty-one years ago)

JBR, which would you rather trade me for, '65 or '66 (or the forthcoming '64)?

Sarah Pedal (call mr. lee), Sunday, 7 December 2003 23:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd love to hear your '64 one! E-mail me.

bad jode (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 7 December 2003 23:49 (twenty-one years ago)

haha i remember when i was like 15 or so my dad tried to "bond" with me by telling me eddie vedder sounded like richie havens. i had to tell him that just because it was on the radio didn't mean i liked it.

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 8 December 2003 00:03 (twenty-one years ago)

haha!

p.s. jody you are amazing

amateur!st (amateurist), Monday, 8 December 2003 00:03 (twenty-one years ago)

haha the richie havens track is instrumental

bad jode (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 8 December 2003 00:09 (twenty-one years ago)

so you can all relax

bad jode (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 8 December 2003 00:09 (twenty-one years ago)

wow

unknown or illegal user (doorag), Monday, 8 December 2003 00:10 (twenty-one years ago)

the only other time my dad tried to engage with me about music was when he looked at the da capo 2001 book the strokes thread was published in, came back, and said "i really liked the one about the shaggs."

make of that what you will.

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 8 December 2003 00:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I think Silver Apples is '67 too. Liner notes of my CD refer to 'original liner notes from the 1967 release'. I'm just happy you picked side 1 over side 2.

Intersystems. Incredibly happy.

(Jon L), Monday, 8 December 2003 01:37 (twenty-one years ago)

two months pass...
haha i just banned someone on slsk who was ransacking all my 1968 shit. make your own mix, asshole!

jody (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 14 February 2004 19:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Best cdr go revive evah!

donut bitch (donut), Sunday, 15 February 2004 09:45 (twenty-one years ago)

did you ever actually burn cdrs of this stuff?

amateur!st (amateurist), Sunday, 15 February 2004 09:56 (twenty-one years ago)

we do.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Sunday, 15 February 2004 09:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to, then i decided to switch over to a sony burner, and it fucked my shit up ever since...

donut bitch (donut), Sunday, 15 February 2004 09:57 (twenty-one years ago)

and I can see your consternation. why on earth would someone put an entire file like this one on slsk and expect someone would actually want to acquire the whole thing?

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Sunday, 15 February 2004 09:58 (twenty-one years ago)

(i'm unfamiliar with slsk.. is it possible to easily and accidentally reset one's slsk directory to something else?)

donut bitch (donut), Sunday, 15 February 2004 10:04 (twenty-one years ago)

(unless, I now realize, slsk has file-clogging problems that fuck up smaller servers. since I've never used slsk, I'll assume you can see what your fellow users' bandwidth is and therefore act judiciously. if that's the case, or rather NOT the case, my apologies.)

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Sunday, 15 February 2004 10:09 (twenty-one years ago)

"Make your own mix, asshole!" just made me larf. :)

donut bitch (donut), Sunday, 15 February 2004 10:20 (twenty-one years ago)

two months pass...
THIS IS FUCKING INCREDIBLE!!!
other than that i am speechless.

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 21:22 (twenty-one years ago)

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 21:32 (twenty-one years ago)

jody is a genius

amateur!!st, Wednesday, 24 November 2004 02:26 (twenty years ago)

did you ever actually burn cdrs of this stuff?

for the people who asked for copies, yes.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 03:25 (twenty years ago)

and by "asked" i mean "actually e-mailed me with an address i could send a cd to."

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 03:28 (twenty years ago)

You wouldn't happen to still be making copies, would you?;)

sundar subramanian (sundar), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 03:29 (twenty years ago)

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 03:37 (twenty years ago)

amateur!!st, Wednesday, 24 November 2004 03:46 (twenty years ago)

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 03:52 (twenty years ago)

i deliberately avoided the word "jap," jody!

amateur!!st, Wednesday, 24 November 2004 03:54 (twenty years ago)

also why are the colors of that book so girly?

amateur!!st, Wednesday, 24 November 2004 03:54 (twenty years ago)

That was meant to be a visual representation of my own admirably semitic proboscis!

adam... (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 04:34 (twenty years ago)

three years pass...

Where is Jody?

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 08:37 (seventeen years ago)
