oddly I too now want to know stuff about him, having heard Les Choses De La Vie on the Julien Jabre Discotech compilation.

the best place to start is definitely the comp called Le Cinéma de Claude Sautet : basically all the main title themes (Les Choses de la vie, Max et ferrailleurs, César et Rosalie, Mado, Un Coeur en Hiver....) and a few other things. all composed by philippe sarde
