I need a CD writer. I need it to be cheap but not shite, and I need it to be external I think as I want it to work on my PC and my laptop too. So what should I be looking for? A quick trip to Dixons didn't enlighten me much I have to say.

No Dave, to increase the efficiency of my working from home and thus improve my productivity in my contracted job.

Get a BURN proof writer if you can, I'm not sure if you can get external ones though. It wil be a guaranteed efficiency improver.

I just got me a 16X Que!Writer--it's pretty nice, it's a Plextor on the inside, which is pretty much considered the best brand of CD- writers. It's also portable, which is nice--but you need firewire. So if your laptop doesn't have Firewire, you probably want to get a PCMCIA card that acts as an interface. If you were planning on using it for laptop anyway, that's the only way to go, as USB is painfully slow.

I just read that the music industry is launching an anti-piracy campaign under the tag-line "I love music".

apparently http://www.svpcommunications.co.uk is a good place to buy. I've only bought their (very cheap) CDR's, but the delivery was fast and the service was good.

Try looking for drivers you need at the Samsung Download Center on their site

CD Writers don't have drivers.

Splitting hairs, but it's firmware rather than drivers isn't it?
