I was already going to the Khanate/Orthrelm gig. I'm definitely gonna check out Sunn 0))), too. Their records have been a little disappointing lately, but I've heard they're amazing live.

i saw them live at the wire fest here in chicago. it was pretty great. smoke machines, robes, and a wall of amplifiers. also, they bow to each other everytime they change chords. so they bow about 5 times during a 45 minutes set.

Sunn O))) are incredible live at the right volume (i.e. beyond the pain threshold), I saw them in London earlier this year and I thought I was going to be sick.

I was at the wire show in chicago, too. Every time they changed a chord--every time they bowed--a different part of my body would start vibrating in resonance with the chord. Definintely a multi-sensory experience. Religious, almost?

I'm definitely going to see Khanate, but will be in Providence when Sunn plays here.

I just knew by the thread title that it was a Phil Freeman post.

anyway, gonna have to see khanate. if only to see what the hell the band does in the 60 second pauses between chords.

it's an aproximation of the Sunn amps logo.yeah I know. why I'm asking is I wonder why they thought this discovery was important enought to name their band after. Or is it something about sunn amps particular to what sunn o))) do? Never seen em live so no clue about their gear

They use Sunn gear, but it's also a tribute to the band Earth, their planetary precedent in drone metal.
