C90/CD-R 700 (?) - introducing someone to hip hop...

(i had a quick look through the archives and i couldn't find anything so apologies if this has been done before...)

a friend asked me and my flatmate to make him a CD with "some rap" on it, because he thinks he's starting to like it.

from riding in his car last yr i know his taste = nu-metal, so i'm quite excited at the opportunity to introduce him to something new - and (in my opinion, obviously) better.

thing is there's SO MUCH good stuff out there doing one 74 min CD seems like a wasted opportunity. i think i want to do an MP3 cd. that might be a bit overwhelming though, i don't know.

i'm rambling here. basically, any of your suggestions would be much appreciated!

hmm, i made a double cd like this for a friend, i'll see if i've still got the tracklist. but she was an alt rock fan, so i approached things from the moodier mobb deep-y side with a good selection of recent party rap, but i wasn't sure if she could handle a "bia bia" just yet. however, things might be just the reverse for a nu-metal fan. does he like meth on 'n2gether now'?

see, i find that most rockists appreciate the soul-sounding stuff more than the jiggy stuff, or the mobb deep/wu (which sounds too samey for them).

I'd start with something like:

Roots: the Seed
Mos Def: Hip hop
Nas: New York State of Mind
Hova: Ain't No Love
Method Man & Mary J Blige: You're all I need

then get into some harder or more jiggy stuff...

If he's into nu-metal he'd probably like most things on NERD's In Search Of... album - then you can take him on to some other Neptunes productions from there.
