Am I the only one who's psyched about the PROBOT album in February?

I mean, I'm no real fan of Grohl (Foo Fighters not really my thing) but say waht you want, dude's a killer drummer - matched up with Cronos??! Lemmy??!? Wino?!? Max Cavalera?!! I think this is going to RULE

Could be good.

Yeah, Grohl has good taste in metal and he's talented musician - so I expect it to at least have its moments. I had no idea he was even releasing an album as Probot. Word em up and out.

I would be excited if this album hadn't already been pushed back 893472590374589234x. I'm expecting this to come out in 2006, really.

there's a 7" out now on Southern Lord, limited to 6,666 copies, but it's already out of print and currently fetching $30 on ebay.

I'm sure Aja (she of the intense Dave Grohl fixation) is well primed. I'm more curious than psyched, but anything Lemmy's involved in is certainly worth checking out.

What Alex? I'm I not allowed to speak for myself or something?

Aja (aja), Sunday, 7 December 2003 22:37 (twenty-one years ago)

The record has been finished/floating for a while. It should have been the soundtrack to Rock School, as Grohl definitely pursues a scholarly vibe. Plus Jack Black on the bonus track.

I'm intrigued about it, but I'm not quite sure if it'll be any good. Gonna wait and see.

The three songs I've heard didn't impress me. Lemmy was fine, but his contribution to the Rise Above disc was way better.

The problem is, this is a Project and not a Band. Each guest contributes vocals and their instrument (mostly bass, except for Wino) and Grohl fills everything else in himself. Thus, no organic musical locking-in takes place, and you wind up with something fairly sterile, even while it holds to all the usual strategies of "heavy" music. Not good.

That's what I figured.

...Grohl definitely pursues a scholarly vibe.

When I do my shopping, I know that scholarly-ness is
always the sign of quality.

two months pass...
So, this is out. What I've heard, I've liked. Anyone have it?

dleone (dleone), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 21:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, I have it. But I've been working on a review of the new Courtney Love too much to listen to all of it. I have a feeling I'm not going to be all "four-star" like other reviewers are, though. For crying out loud, King Diamond doesn't even sing in a falsetto on his track.

This track with the dude from Sepultura rocks.
