I know I hate it - the overdone musicianship, the prog ambition, the pompous vocals - but somehow, strangely enough, there's also something inside me that appreciates it for exacty the same features. Comments?

I love this LP. If it sounds good....fuck it.

Everything the first guy said. It's great because it's so lame. Some of Roland's best/hammiest "soul" vocals; some of Oleta's best shouting; the melodramatic/wonderful way the guitar and bass charge into the tune after the intro.
(Really, though, this is just a function of TFF's being my favorite band until I discovered lots and lots of people who were better, but still having a nostalgic attachment to them that I wouldn't have if I heard *Seeds of Love* for the first time today.)
Along the same lines--"Woman in Chains." What great/tacky Farlight programming.

Those were the words I was looking for, thanks. I can't be said more accurately.

if it's lame how can it be great. just call it great and be done with it. whats with the guilt?

i guess that in a way you're right, but it is really tacky. the storytelling is wack, it is pompous far beyond its own potential, and its orchestral tricks are pretty lame (i especially remember a hihat break that, utterly unnecessary, goes "tsiki-tsiki-tsiki-tsiki-tsiki-tsikit-tsssssssss". so lame!
but it is still great, because they have the guts to take it all the way beyond naffness. the sheer effort deserves applause. i guess it is more of a process piece than a great result. some of the stuff in there sounds great, but the overall work is still pretty whack.
it's like an university assignment where you had some really good ideas and some excellent paragraphs and chapters, but you overplayed your hand somewhat. that has its value, too, but it is of course also very open for criticism.
