I saw it on VH1 Classic a couple of weeks ago - Wall of Voodoo, inside of a house, with a TV like the one on the cover of Call of the West. But the only video listed at videography sites is "Mexican Radio," and that wasn't it.

Might it have been the title track to Call of the West?

I hate that song "Mexican Radio".

"Mexican Radio" is brilliant.

wall of voodoo and stan ridgway solo are both brilliant.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 8 December 2003 18:35 (twenty-one years ago)

It's annoying.

matter of fact, i was thinking of starting an "in praise of stan ridgway" thread, since i got his greatest hits comp and i love it!

That's what I'm thinking, or else "Lost Weekend." But neither sounds right. And yes, "Mexican Radio" is fantastic.

I bought the album after seeing the video, sad that they've been written off my so many people as just-another-early-MTV-fave.

Andy Prieboy's solo stuff is also brilliant.

What about the Ring of Fire cover? Personally I just luuurv it.

I still don't get why "Mexican Radio" was a bigger hit than "Back in Flesh"

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 8 December 2003 18:38 (twenty-one years ago)

"Back in Flesh" is a great song, but it sounds more wilfully perverse than "Mexican Radio," lyrically and musically.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 8 December 2003 18:43 (twenty-one years ago)

uh-huh. perverse=better.

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 8 December 2003 18:45 (twenty-one years ago)

True, but perverse isn't usually something that makes for a "hit single".

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 8 December 2003 18:48 (twenty-one years ago)

True. Which is a universal problem with the public at large.
