It's kind of impressive if this is the first time he's ever been arrested.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 00:50 (twenty-one years ago)

the godfather of American funk music

I'm not a huge fan of these titles anyway, but surely James Brown is the 'godfather of American funk music.' Plus, what the hell is 'American' funk music? As opposed to funk music from Australia? I suppose AWB are the godfathers of Scottish funk music, I'll grant you that. Or are they Welsh?

Debito (Debito), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 01:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm claiming the Wurzels as godfathers of west-country funk.

pete s, Tuesday, 9 December 2003 01:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Regardless of whether he's the godfather of anything this is a sad story. Crack really, really isn't good for you.

Damn you bitch ass cracker!

Andrew (enneff), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 01:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Ask, and you shall be answered.

Debito (Debito), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 01:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah-oh, somebody said 'cracker'

Debito (Debito), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 01:53 (twenty-one years ago)

There've been rumors about George being on the pipe going around for years and years. I guess if you can afford it and people expect you to be generally bizarre and kind of out of it, you can get away with it for a long time.

Lee G (Lee G), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 02:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Next you're gonna tell me Ozzy crashed his ATV breaking 6 ribs and a vertebra. He's gonna want those pills back.

Sorry to hear about Clinton too.

Hunter (Hunter), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 05:03 (twenty-one years ago)

And before I have to re-live the jumper thread next door, let me emphasize that I am FULL up to HERE with compassion and concern for Ozzy, he is not well.

Hunter (Hunter), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 05:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I am a big fan of George Clinton. I was really into Parliament/Funkadelic at one time. I have about 10 P-Funk albums. I've seen the P-Funk Allstars three times. And yet... I hardly felt any compassion when I read that he was busted. I wonder why...

Maybe because I'm a cold-hearted bastard.

But seriously, I hardly ever care about the personal lives of musicians. Although, I was pretty upset by Elliot Smith's suicide.

Debito (Debito), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 06:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Jackie Orszaczky is the godfather of Australian funk ... possibly, even though he is originally Hungarian.

People of George's age should not be doing such things, think of John Entwistle.

You see a black man in a car smoking. You are a police officer. So what do you do?

I say, 'Ullo, ullo ullo! What about giving a hard working bobby a sly toke then sir?'

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 09:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I really doubt I'd make it into the police in the first place to be honest

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 09:58 (twenty-one years ago)

At least George didn't do anything nasty, after Phil S. I'll be almost happy to see musicians I like getting busted if it isn't for murder

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 09:59 (twenty-one years ago)

This is very sad.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

It's sad because (according to Whitney Houston) crack is for poor people. Seems like George has worked too hard to be poor.

dave225 (Dave225), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

And ripped off too many members of his bands.

I am a huge fan of this man's music as it's probably known to many, but I am not at all surprised by this. Saddened, yes. Surprised, no.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 15:47 (twenty-one years ago)

outside a Circle K parking lot???
was he trying to get caught?

kephm, Tuesday, 9 December 2003 15:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I just think it's interesting that he was driving a gold Nissan Sentra. I have no idea why.

Debito (Debito), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 23:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I wonder what the life expectancy of an unrepentant and financially solvent crack addict is?

The public perception is that crack will kill you fast, but it seems to me that it's other stuff (crime, suicide, accidents) that tend to snuff out the crackheads before the crack can do its business. Even though powdered coke is not quite as nasty, I imagine John Entwistle had been using it on and off for thirty years ... is it affluence that makes the difference between the utter casualty peeling his fingernails off on a street corner, and the well-to-do music celebrity still together enough to be able to tour, afford Honda Civics, etc.?

How long has George Clinton been smoking crack? What percentage of the population that smokes crack is over 30?

I have so many questions!

Someone pointed me to this and this

mentalist (mentalist), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 08:00 (twenty-one years ago)

The whole thing makes much more sense now ...
