Chris Ott (Chris Ott), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 00:49 (twenty-one years ago)

WHERE is Nitro Deluxe!?!?!

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 00:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Nice list btw, Chris.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 00:55 (twenty-one years ago)

good list! I was going to chide you about no The Ledge by the Replacements but AMG sez its 1987 (and Left of the Dial is 1985).....

Matt Helgeson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 00:58 (twenty-one years ago)

No Pet Shop Boys? 'Love Comes Quickly' if you're treating 'Opportunities' as 1985

The Fall - "U.S. 80's-90's"

Elvis Costello -"Indoor Fireworks"

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 01:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Why do the responses to these threads always have more to do with what the person left off than what's actually on there?

bad jode (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 01:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Because we're arseholes.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 01:03 (twenty-one years ago)

that's true.

bad jode (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 01:03 (twenty-one years ago)

There is so much I hate on Chris's list that I don't know where to start. But then again most of the time the things I checked for where on there, so I guess it's a pretty catholic list.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 01:05 (twenty-one years ago)

"Small Town" is '83

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 01:08 (twenty-one years ago)

More sniping - there are two Beastie Boys tracks!

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 01:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I still want one, of course.

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 01:09 (twenty-one years ago)

(Ott--email me)

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 01:10 (twenty-one years ago)

i was about to whinge about the lack of MBV til i found out they released nothing in 1986.

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 01:12 (twenty-one years ago)

The more I look at it, the more it seems like the most wide ranging of all the lists I've seen. And that leads me to think that I really do hate 1986, which is funny, seeing as my favourite album of all time was released during it.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 01:13 (twenty-one years ago)

"Small Town" is '83

Actually, it's on Scarecrow, which is from '85.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 01:14 (twenty-one years ago)

oh, OK. I always get Uh-Huh and Scarecrow mixed up in my head, or at least the singles from them.

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 01:15 (twenty-one years ago)

oh i thought of something: Pastels "truck train tractor"

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 01:19 (twenty-one years ago)

The Blow Monkeys - "Digging Your Scene"
The Source feat Candi Staton - "You Got The Love"
The Wedding Present - "This Boy Can Wait"
Joyce Simms - "All And All"

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 01:27 (twenty-one years ago)

The Jesus And Mary Chain - "Some Candy Talking"

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 01:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Primal Scream stood in for the C86 crew-- the Weddoes didn't have it together yet. And "Love Comes Quickly" is on there (as is "Tokyo Storm Warning")! I must have miscopied my playlist as they were the last tracks I added..."Love Comes Quickly" is in-between "If You Leave" and "Panic", and "Tokyo Storm Warning" is between "Happy Hour" and "Rise". Arrgh!

Chris Ott (Chris Ott), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 01:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Aw man, Ott, i would have digitized my NME C86 record for ya..

And a few obligatory ommissions meant with respect of course..

Poison: "I Want Action"

Felt: "Ballad of the Band" or other stuff

Ministry : "Just Like You" or anything else off "Twitch"

coil : "The Anal Staircase"

World Domination Enterprises "Catalogue Clothes" (although that's a hard one to come by, so not a biggie)

Revolting Cocks : anything off... oh hell, just a bunch of Wax Trax! stuff for my delusionary bias towards that label.

Paul Lekakis "Boom Boom Boom (Let's Go Back To My Room)"
Mike Mareen "Love Spy"
(haha, 1986 was definitely the year of gay synth pop! but you got the Bronski Beat "Hit That Perfect Beat, Boy"! Good on ya!)

Ultimate Force "Cuts Like These"
J.D. Krush "Krush Style"

Nice work, Chris. :)

(Jode, these lists aren't mean spirited. We're just preparing for the "MINE THE GAP" comps, that's all ;) )

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 01:56 (twenty-one years ago)

(oh, and Flaming Lips "Charlie Manson Blues" or anything off "Hear it is")

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 01:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Aw man, Ott, i would have digitized my NME C86 record for ya..

'S ok, I've got it! I was toying with Talulah's "I Told You So" as well, but, the sound quality of those tracks is uh...well it makes Gang Green sound like Poison, let's say. I got Fuzzbox! Thanks for the notes tho, haven't heard World Domination Enterprises or Ultimate Force (shocka, disqualified, etc. etc.).

Chris Ott (Chris Ott), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 02:10 (twenty-one years ago)

VERY HAPPY you got Fuzzbox on there.. though I'm more partial to their hit single "Love Is The Slug"

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 02:19 (twenty-one years ago)

More sniping - there are two Beastie Boys tracks!
And Peter Gabriel and Mr. Mister and-- technically-- Phil Collins, Run DMC and Sting. They all appeared on or released huge, huge records-- especially (*shudder*) Mr. Mister, who basically ran the table in '86.

Phil, take me home.

Chris Ott (Chris Ott), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 02:23 (twenty-one years ago)

reading that tracklist through was shocking and awe-inspiring, Chris. "Don't Stand So Close to Me '86"?!?! you don't fuck around.

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 02:26 (twenty-one years ago)

man the 80s rocked! yay! also like the Peace Sells next to Master of Puppets....keep that Mustaine/Metallica grudge match going!

Matt Helgeson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 17:36 (twenty-one years ago)

http://home.nyc.rr.com/wombat888/C7001986.jpg

Chris Ott (Chris Ott), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 04:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Excellent. Though, as I recall, Huey Lewis was still doing stuff in '86. I mean if you're gonna give Mr. Mister props and all...

dleone (dleone), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 05:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I couldn't bring myself to include "Stuck With You", but "Hip to be Square" should have been on there, you're right. Jess snubbed him on 1985 as well. MINE THE GAP: HUEY LEWIS' GREATEST HITS.

Chris Ott (Chris Ott), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 05:56 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
Was "I'm an Adult Now" '86? I got the album, and it says 1988. (says the guy who's about to finish up the 1988 comp). Had it been a single for two years before?

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 5 January 2004 00:29 (twenty-one years ago)

(!! OK, just saw the album cover for 1986 Go! and that's fucking brilliant)

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 5 January 2004 00:29 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, just checked allmusic... it was a single from 1986. Wow. Nevermind.

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 5 January 2004 00:33 (twenty-one years ago)

The only reason I knew it predated Love Junk was the MTV ban they used to promote the album, I figured they were really hard. Reading up, seems it was the biggest indie breakthrough in Canada in the 1980s, they were nominated for Junos in '87. But uh, yeah, no harder than Guadalcanal Diary.

Chris Ott (Chris Ott), Monday, 5 January 2004 01:16 (twenty-one years ago)

TS: "The Ledge" vs "Alex Chilton" - the people's choice makes the '87 C700 Go (which is coming soon. Honest.)

Jeff W (zebedee), Monday, 5 January 2004 17:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Um, I don't know "The Ledge", so 1 vote for "Alex Chilton".

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 5 January 2004 18:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha, when Peter Gabriel was listed first, I knew Ott had done this! Good job, Chris.

scott pl. (scott pl.), Monday, 5 January 2004 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

"The Ledge" = cred. "Alex Chilton" / "Can't Hardly Wait" = fun.

Chris Ott (Chris Ott), Monday, 5 January 2004 19:09 (twenty-one years ago)

1992 is coming tonight or tomorrow...fear it.

Chris Ott (Chris Ott), Monday, 5 January 2004 19:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Good! This way, I can see what will overlap with what I already have planned for 1991, and then I can either a) use something else, or b) FITE. (heh heh).

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 5 January 2004 19:44 (twenty-one years ago)

(let me just state I hope you're not using the first 1991 Basehead album that got reissued on Imago in 1992, or else... grrrr)

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 5 January 2004 19:45 (twenty-one years ago)

"Not Over You", that takes me back. Not using it. I already have about 40 Mine the Gap exclusions, there's just not enough for a C1400, it would be padded with loads of middling indie rock and R&B ballads.

Chris Ott (Chris Ott), Monday, 5 January 2004 20:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Yup, i hear ya. I know i will have about 1.2 megs of Mine the Gap 1991 alone outside what will actually end up on the final thing.. surely.

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 5 January 2004 20:27 (twenty-one years ago)

That Outrage disc may be coming closer than we think.

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 5 January 2004 20:27 (twenty-one years ago)

five years pass...

Just happened across this building a new machine; C700s were a blast, this was such a healthy exercise.
