Wow, he goes off at some great length. Maybe I've been too quick to judge Mr.F-J.

He always seems to have surpring tastes in music, liking stuff you wouldn't expect....that's one of the reasons I like his stuff so much.

judge him as what exactly alex? a championer of pabulum?

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 22:03 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe I missed something, but I'm not sure I've seen Alex judge SFJ. or is it offsite?

Here comes the JUDGE!

Matt Helgeson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 22:52 (twenty-one years ago)

3 o'clock. Time for Wapner.

i imagine the little hammer he would use to be slightly ornate but certainly camp

Oh, I didn't go off on a tirade about him or anything. I think it was he, however, that wrote the Voice review of the new Killing Joke album in the form of a diary entry or an e-mail or something schlocky like that (summarily inspiring me to assume that he's a hack or an idiot or some such).

And, pray, tell, is it so wrong to honour the fire in an unorthodox manner? I would think you (or other Firedancers) would be jazzed (ha) to have a little idiosynchratic flicker in the flame. If you'd prefer, Alex, I'll try & scare up a more traditional (and rather awful) endorsement of the KJ album from a local weekly (the Hartford Advocate, if you wanna dredge it up on YT, since MT is currently being bogarted on a Programming Languages paper and FINALS) (ugh).

And please don't tell me you think that longer = better. As you might imagine from my previous sentence, I'm of the opposite mind, especially when it comes to Zee Joke - I really wish most of the tracks on this new KJ record (which, yeah, kicks a llama's ass straight through the uprights and hurtling into magnificent opulent realms filled with bell-tolling robots and talking monkeys on acid blah blah) were each 1 to 2 minutes shorter. I also wish Jaz wasn't so Jaz-like when it came to vocalizing, but that's because I have no ballz.

And now I'll wait for Alex to tell me how & where I like my feces.

If it's done well, but in this particular, isolated instance, I'm of the opinion that it was not. Beyond that, I'm all for reviews that depart from convention....but they have to work. This one didn't. For me, at least.

No need, Dave, I understand your point and have read more than my share of bog-standard, yawnsome conventional reviews.

In terms of song length on the new album, I do agree that some songs could've used a bit of chopping, whereas others (notably "Blood On Your Hands", "Implant" and "Seeing Red") could each rattle on for another five minutes, and I'd never complain. If they'd excised "Total Invasion" entirely, I think the album would be improved by leaps and bounds.
