Presumably this is another thread where we can't name ILXors?

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Posh isn't trying hard enough! I want to see desperate desperation!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 14:54 (twenty-one years ago)

2. Latebloomer.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

name ILXors if you wish, but probably best to stick to music

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Posh just wants to be a Saskeronian.

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Posh isn't trying hard enough! I want to see desperate desperation!

well there was the Woolworths incident and the alleged bitterness following the Spiller/SEB battle, but i saw both of her new videos last night and the desperation just pours thru i think. i haven't found her remotely sexy since she got hitched but she's on this ornate bed writhing around in a basque, long hair all tousled in one. in the other she's acting out the sleb drama queen schtick. both songs appear to be about 'giving in to the music, tonight' or something. neither are a patch on 'out of your mind' which may be the real tragedy altho there are a few interesting sounds hither and thither (as with recent production for Holly Valance, GA and the like)

"There's a sign on the door saying, "Do not disturb this groove."

Jeeeeeesus.

Kate Jane Connolly (fixitgirl), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the dont disturb this groove sample works really well actually.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

i think she may get her #1 this time tho at least. if not, give it up for good

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

3. Mis-teeq.
4. Muse
5. Radiohead
6. Evanescence (can they crank up the emotion anymore?)

pete s, Wednesday, 10 December 2003 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

not sure i agree with any of those. i'd probably nominate So Solid next actually.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Good Charlotte
Rancid
P!nk

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

10. Rachel Stevens

Enrique (Enrique), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 15:18 (twenty-one years ago)

also i suppose the idea of this thread is more about 'trying too hard but still failing' (Alan Partridge) rather than 'trying so hard that you inevitably succeed' (er...Del Boy?) - Posh may yet transfer to the latter division although she's surely already been as high as she could be 6 years ago (which has been the problem for all the Spices in solo form and possibly quite a few other British pop stars too)

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

17. Bono.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 15:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Bono's in a whole other category, I think. I mean, he's trying for world peace. Can you try too hard if you're Bono?

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I like Evanescence's new video, because there's one part where the girl is lying in crucifixion posture atop a Volkswagen Beetle (an old one), and it reminds me of Chris Burden.

Phil Freeman (Phil Freeman), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 16:00 (twenty-one years ago)

What European city is it that they're roaming around in in said video?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 16:01 (twenty-one years ago)

The first time I saw that video I almost couldn't stop laughing, it was so cheesy. Record execs after listening to Evanescence's demo: "Wow, that was incredible! It's got Sarah McGlauchlin vocals with heavy Korn guitars underneath. It's like beauty meets the beast! Kids, you're gonna be stars!"

latebloomer (latebloomer), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I just realized everyone was referring to the newest video, which I haven't seen. Sorry.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

i think the new Evanescence song and video is actually ok but really this is just cos i crush Amy Lee big style so my judgement cannot be taken too seriously on this matter

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 16:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Did her collaborator just quit the band?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 16:14 (twenty-one years ago)

18. The Vines.
Craig Nichols always looks so desperate to emulate whatever indie band with a lead singer with "issues" who likes to destroy their equipment and looked "fucked-up", and in doing so fails to notice the Vines music is unpardonably, unmitigated shite.

Neil FC (Neil FC), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 21:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Metallica

Stupid (Stupid), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 21:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Ashanti

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 21:09 (twenty-one years ago)

no Ashanti hardly tries! the real once and forever answer to this question is hoobastink

Vic (Vic), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 21:14 (twenty-one years ago)

of course, i also tried very hard in that last post

Vic (Vic), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 21:15 (twenty-one years ago)

also, Succubus!!

Vic (Vic), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 21:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Ashanti seems to really want to be a bona fide diva, though, don't you think? Shame about her weedy thin voice.
