Marmoset, the band not the monkey, and why that needs to be explained

Does anyone feel that Marmoset should be included in the long list of bands that deserve much more attention then they've received?

they're an excellent band, each record getting better and better. the jorma whittaker solo that came out is fine too.

Has anyone ever heard them getting any airtime on the radio or seen them in concert? I live in San Francisco and for the most part the band is completely unknown.

props, also, to ex-marmoset guitarist/singer dave jablonski's fantastic little garage band, Great Big Huge. you might have to go to indianapolis to see them. not sure if they're toured or released anything.

Not knowing about Great Big Huge I decided to run a Google search. You can imagine what I got in return. Cuz, are you from the Indy area or how is it that you're familiar with this band?

damn, they seem to have absolutely no presence on the internet. though i do imagine that the phrase "great big huge" has a rather large presence on the net.

i'm not from indy, but my band opened for them in a fabulous indy dive called the melody inn about six months ago. we were not knowing about them either before that night. they were amazing. and amusing. most amusingly, they had a manager who sat in front of the stage with a list of all their songs. they played without a setlist but stopped every so often to ask him what was left.

they were more or less channeling early beach boys through the sound of fuzzy, broken amps.

Totally agree! Have they released a follow-up to "Record in Red"?

Kate Silver (Kate Silver), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 21:14 (twenty-one years ago)

mishawaka? not sure.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 21:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Yessum, after Record in Red was the Mishawaka EP followed by Jorma's solo effort. From what I understand Jorma played two live shows to promote the album and that's it. Anybody happen to see him, anything to report?

do they fling their poo on stage? If so, they deserve no more attention.

Zeno, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 11:59 (eighteen years ago)

and by first impression, the new album does sounds good as ever

Zeno, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 12:04 (eighteen years ago)

it's really hard to explain them, cause they sound different in almost every song.
but the basic influence are Pavement and Syd Barret.
you can also get reminded of psychedlic pop, jesus and mary chain, galaxie 500,joy division, butthole surfers, the cure, and many others bands in their nusic,it's a box full of surprises..and,most importantly, they write great melodic songs.
