The tracks I have heard from their early LPs didn't do much for me (not funky enough I thought) but I found their contribution to the Sweet Sweetback's... soundtrack to be quite arresting when I saw the movie years ago.

I might change the order a bit, but your top 10 is pretty much the same as mine. :) And I like that you didn't include "Boogie Wonderland", which I've always found a bit too blunt and simplistic and therefore overrated in the EWF canon.

14. Can’t Let Go
Just a perfect disco song.

I regret not including "Changing Times."

As years go by, I've become more and more convinced "Fantasy" is the best pop song of the 20th century. It's so transcendent in its melodic beauty and immaculate arrangement that it escapes any of those binaries and categorizations so often set on popular music (especially pop made by black musicians), such as gritty/artificial or raw/refined. It's just a perfect world to get lost in.

I just watched The Jonas Brothers perform "Boogie Wonderland" at the Kennedy Center Honors and tbh I really don't understand how this happened

However, songwriter Allee Willis says the seasons have little to do with the date of choice here:We went through all the dates: ‘Do you remember the first, the second, the third, the fourth … ’ and the one that just felt the best was the 21st. I constantly have people coming up to me and they get so excited to know what the significance was. And there is no significance beyond it just sang better than any of the other dates.I learned my greatest lesson in songwriting: Never let the lyric get in the way of the groove. So … sorry!
