Probably made the biggest US splash at first by appearing in the film The Hunger.

what the hell kinda class is this, asking people to research people's reactions to "bela lugosi's dead" when it was released?

i suspect most people in the USA didn't hear it at all when it was released over here, since it wasn't exactly huge on the pop-charts. ergo: no response at all.

Whenever I see people talking about him I ALWAYS think of the fat bastard that was carrying Kerri Strug around.

Here in NYC, outside of clubs like Danceteria and the Mudd Club, I'd suggest mass indifference.

In Canada, we were like, "yeah, he has been for a few years."

I don't think it really got much attention until we saw it (and them) in that crappy vampire with David Bowie and Catherine Deneuve (okay, it wasn't that crappy if it had CD in it).

..in that crappy vampire with David Bowie and Catherine Deneuve

You're not fit to dwell on this planet. Please leave at once.

Useless Factoid:

The Hunger was based on a novel by Whitley Strieber, the author of the "non-fiction" alien abduction bestseller Communion.

Peter Cetera wears a T-shirt with the cover of "Bela Lugosi's Dead" on it in the Chicago video for "You're the Inspiration". Any research paper discussing the cultural impact of the song would do well to include this fascinating tidbit

I doubt the Lugosi estate was particularly appreciative.

Thank god.. i thought this was a thread about a new band called the Bela Lugosi Response that was some new post-wave band from New York or something...

I would have been cool if there was a Bela Legosi's Revenge diss record single by another goth band like Roxanne's Revenge did to UTFO....

eh? THIS IS A JOKE, YES?!?

Nope. It's the truth. One of the New Kids on the Block also sports a Bauhaus t-shirt (featuring a still from "the Cabinet of Dr.Caligari" on it, if I remember correctly) in one of their vids.
