The new Elbow: Classic or Dud

I keep on reading about how great the new Elbow album is. It's not out here yet in the states (I think it comes out next month). But's it's been out in the UK for many months. What do you think? I loved the first one. Any other records or musicians to compare this new one to? Who does it sound like to you?

there are some decent songs on it (the first one is great and fugitive motel is pretty good) but the majority of the album is a giant sleeper

overall a big giant ennnnnnnnnhhhh

There's a thread about this already - Classic, i say - much better than their debut, and one of the best albums of the year imo. one duff track (Buttons and Zips) but three or four truly great tracks and the rest are good.

In comparison to the first one, DUD. It's a decent album but a lot of it is just dull.

i really liked "switching off"; but I played the record in the car and my wife said, "is this peter gabriel?" and made me take it out. to be fair there is a bit of a world-music-y tinge to one track. Anyway, no, not as good as the first record. But pretty good.

ha ha yes she is like that. but actually I am listening to the album again now for the first time in ages and still think it's pretty good. I mean it's not talk talk or anything but it's alright. it's better than coldplay at least.
