Damn, I tried to check everything. I'll change Glen Campbell (Galveston) and Sly (Don't call me nigger, whitey), but according to AMG Fabulous Counts is '69.

Singles can often be released the year (or more) before the album it appears on.

And sometimes they're released the year (or more) AFTER the album it appears on.

I think the general rule is "whichever came first, that's the date".

(Whether this applies these songs specifically, again, I don't know)

That said, overlap is inevitable, so no reason to be put on the spot. It might be an issue if a sizeable chunk of songs overlapped on either year. In that rare case.. hell, choose something else! (I don't think this has happened yet.. though I think Nate and I came close)

That said, Matos will be all over your ass if your 90 rubs all against his 89. (dirty phrasing fully intended)

I'm running into this a lot too, especially when the albums are released in '72 but the singles aren't released/chart until '73.

I later removed all the '83-released stuff, db -- Geeta can have "Let the Music Play" et al. The only 'new' 'rule' I 'established' was that classical/post-classical/whatever pieces would go by the year composed, not by the year recorded.
