JaXoN (JasonD), Thursday, 11 December 2003 22:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Theremin a bogus instrument? Clara Rockmore is rolling over in her grave.

Haha, well the instrument is real but the band member is bogus!

bad jode (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 11 December 2003 22:05 (twenty-one years ago)

"Clara Rockmore is rolling over in her grave."
awww, i thought she was still kickin'.

Felcher (Felcher), Thursday, 11 December 2003 22:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, insert freshman year argument about "what makes one instrument any more REAL than another?????"

bad jode (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 11 December 2003 22:06 (twenty-one years ago)

huh? huh???

bad jode (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 11 December 2003 22:06 (twenty-one years ago)

i'd love to see a face off between quintron with his drum buddy and the guy from comets on fire with his echoplex.

Felcher (Felcher), Thursday, 11 December 2003 22:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought "Lothar" WAS the theremin...

Marcel Post (Marcel Post), Thursday, 11 December 2003 22:14 (twenty-one years ago)

it IS!

bad jode (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 11 December 2003 22:20 (twenty-one years ago)

but the instrument's anthropomorphized name is part of the band name!

bad jode (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 11 December 2003 22:20 (twenty-one years ago)

OH GOD FORGET I EVER SAID ANYTHING

bad jode (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 11 December 2003 22:21 (twenty-one years ago)

all those turntablists with their wicky wicky scratching up their records. that shit is so not a real instrument

and those rap producers with their samplers. that shit is so not a real instrument

and those people that play synthesizers not guitars. that shit is so not a real instrument

JaXoN (JasonD), Thursday, 11 December 2003 22:22 (twenty-one years ago)

that 'lectric geetar. that's the devil's work, it is. aint no real instermint.

Felcher (Felcher), Thursday, 11 December 2003 22:25 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe there should be a separate "anthropomorphized instrument AS bogus band member" thread. is there more than one?

bad jode (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 11 December 2003 22:25 (twenty-one years ago)

tom ze

cinniblount (James Blount), Thursday, 11 December 2003 22:27 (twenty-one years ago)

someone told me that Man or Astro Man? somehow programmed a dot matrix printer to print a rhythm and they give it its own solo live. if this is true, i'd assume that the printer would fall into the "anthropomorphized instrument AS bogus band member" category. so would Cog's drumbot.

Felcher (Felcher), Thursday, 11 December 2003 22:29 (twenty-one years ago)

i remember hearing about a band - "so and so and the so and so" that had a drum machine that was the second "so and so". like i wanna say echo and the bunnymen or something and echo was the drum machine, but i don't think that's it at all

(or is it?)

JaXoN (JasonD), Thursday, 11 December 2003 22:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Felcher: that is called "A Simple Text File" from the "Spectrum of Infinite Scale" album. The printer was fed with a specific text file created by Coco, and miked by Steve Albini, so I guess it was something like recording a player piano.

JP Almeida (JP Almeida), Friday, 12 December 2003 00:07 (twenty-one years ago)

jimi hendrix - pubic saxophone

briania, Friday, 12 December 2003 00:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Leon Redbone-mouth trumpet

Dave Vinson (Gaughin), Friday, 12 December 2003 04:37 (twenty-one years ago)

JaXon, you thinking of Atom and His Package?

Bob Log III - Tits

Nick Mirov (nick), Friday, 12 December 2003 05:59 (twenty-one years ago)

The onely true band sacred to this thread is The Lonely Bastards. Besides turning a washing machine into a true pop song instrument they turned a true pop washing machine into a hollywood icon pop-star. I think BaronZen Recordings was the only label to release them and even on Gemm can I not find them.

awax (cs appleby), Friday, 12 December 2003 08:45 (twenty-one years ago)

JaXon, you thinking of Atom and His Package?

JaXoN (JasonD), Friday, 12 December 2003 08:53 (twenty-one years ago)

dave225 (Dave225), Friday, 12 December 2003 14:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Also not untrue: Roland Kirk, metal folding-chair as percussion instrument, banged against stage floor.
